Kengo has the right idea, but fails miserably to deliver a solid experience, substituting game modes and substance with repetition.

It isn't the best of games, but it does manage to put a handful of good ideas in one package -- even if it wasn't done as well as it could've been.

It just gets kind of boring watching the fights instead of participating in them.

A semi-historical repetitive fighter that does have its merits, but doesn't reach the full potential of what it could have been.

All in all, gamers can tie a lot of time up into Kengo: Legend of the 9, but so little of it is of any appreciable quality.

I can't say enough how disappointed I was with the final results of Kengo: Legend of the 9. There is so much potential for a realistic samurai title that it's hard to see something going much worse than this.

Kengo: Legend of the Nine alternates between boring players and murdering them. There is some satisfaction to be gained from multiplayer matches, but there’s not really enough variety to make it worth the price of entry.

In case you haven't been paying attention for the past 1,000 or so words, you have to really like samurai to want to play this. And I mean really, really like samurai.

A great deal of smoke with little flame, this game has the potential to be significantly better if perhaps more time was spent on developing some sort of plot…any plot really, rather than the endless wanderings and inevitable rival battles thrown at us.

Kengo's environment-based attacks, nine storylines, and Combat Mode simply aren't enough to recommend what amounts to a boring and repetitive gameplay experience.

The game’s potential is held back by the game’s crippling controls, awful camera and lackluster game modes. Do yourself a favor and skip this game completely.

You'd think it would be hard to mess up a samurai game, but developer Genki has managed to deliver a royal swordplay stinker with Kengo: Legend of the 9.

Endlessly dim foes and equally dull swordplay undermine any samurai appeal.

This is what happens when games go bad... then worse... then are given to another developer to do a sequel in half the time and with a fourth of the budget. This one should have committed the ol' seppuku long ago.

Who knew that samurai swordfighting could ever be so dull and annoying?

Subpar graphics, sound to match, clunky controls and near pointless battle combos are just a few of the problems plaguing this sorry excuse of an Xbox 360 game.

Bad games are sometimes described as “trash,” but even that doesn’t seem vile enough for this grievous affront. Kengo is a tall glass of garbage water – the viscous, beige fluid that collects at the bottom of trash bins...the refuse of waste.

Blimey, it's been a while since we've played something so awful. It really makes you wonder how this got past quality control.
