Overall, I had a good time with Legends of Kingdom Rush. I loved the art style and music, and enjoyed the surprising amount of challenge provided by its battles. It may not be as complex a game as those who are into the tactical genre may be used to playing, but I think that makes the game more accessible, and it manages to do so without making the battles cakewalks for those who still want to put their tactical skills to the test. I also liked that the battles play out relatively quickly since I sometimes find that tactical games require so much time to complete battles that they can be a slog to get through. If you have a Steam Deck, the game is mouse-based and has no controller support so you’ll need to use the pad and triggers as a mouse. It’s not the most precise way to control a game, but you can get by if you’re on a couch. It may be a little frustrating if you’re in a vehicle, though.

If you can deal with the randomness of enemy rolls and somewhat unbalanced gameplay resulting from that randomness, then you will find an entertaining and quick game with Legends of Kingdom Rush that does enough to keep your attention but isn’t meant for large bites of your time.

Legends of Kingdom Rush is a competent if unimaginative experience. The universe has some quirks, but most players will be able to instantly tell the inspiration for each character or enemy. The mechanics are decent and deliver some tense battle moments, but there’s nothing inherently new to engage with. The gamer looks pretty good and makes sure players have all the details they need to make the best tactical choice but there’s not much personality for characters or bosses. The genre Legends of Kingdom Rush is working in is a very crowded one and, while fans of the series will certainly appreciate what the title has to offer, the lack of innovation means that other players don’t have too many reasons to play it.

Legends of Kingdom Rush is a lot of fun, but its port to PC is a bit underwhelming. Lack of controller support for such a mechanically simple game is pretty lazy. There’s no new content, either, so players coming from the mobile version will have seen everything already. With such enjoyable gameplay and sense of style, Legends of Kingdom Rush deserves a more thorough makeover for PC and consoles, not just a basic port.

Tower defense specialists behind the mind-bogglingly successful Kingdom Rush series are trying something fresh - a roguelike turn-based strategy based on heroes and their abilities. It’s fun but also tends to be quite random in what it throws at you and is overall a bit too simplistic for the PC platform.

Legends of Kingdom Rush retains the easy-going gameplay aspect of all of the Ironhide games, as well as the always pleasant cartoony aesthetic. Alas, the number of levels is way low, giving us the feeling that this was a side-project that didn’t receive the attention it deserved compared to the main Kingdom Rush series.

It is not a bad product, the plus point is the low price. The game introduces beginners well to the principles of turn-based RPGs. The characters are cleverly designed and it's fun to try combining squads. Only the actual core, the combat, is mediocre in content.
