Library of Ruina is an incredible, challenging, and long experience with fantastic characters and sublime music on Steam. The console versions have a lovely art and music gallery included with a superb new Japanese voiceover option, but the interface quirks and Switch-specific issues make it hard to recommend easily right now even after two patches. If you have a Steam Deck, play Library of Ruina with the trackpad on that for the current best portable experience.

Library of Ruina offers a dark and compelling narrative with engaging turn-based card combat and rich voice acting that brings its unique characters to life. However, the game is hindered by excessive grinding, poor port quality on the Nintendo Switch, and a steep learning curve that may overwhelm new players. While its depth in character customization and distinct visual and audio presentation stand out, the repetitive gameplay loop and static visual novel elements may detract from the overall experience. For the best experience, it's recommended to play this intriguing but flawed title on PC.

Library of Runia is a fantastic game. The voice acting is top notch, the story is intriguing enough to entice players who otherwise may not be interested in deck building games to give it a shot, and it forces the player to engage with its systems to meet each challenge. However, this means that it won’t be for everyone. Those that have gotten tired of fiddling around with the same deck builders for hours on end may find Library of Runia enticing, especially with its heavy emphasis on story. Overall, I had a blast with the game, even if I’m still figuring out just how to optimize my deck some thirty hours in.
