Line Rider Freestyle takes the template of the popular online game and runs with it, improving on the original in every single way.

IGN May 14, 2024
Line Rider's core concept is great, and this sequel does pretty much what it sets out to do: monetize the free online toy with added gameplay, visuals, and music.

Not only can you not just doodle to your heart's content, but when you get near the limit they post annoying signage all over the drawing field as a warning to be feared, and the help tips up top get replaced with messages that tell you to watch it, buster.

If you have the patience to learn the subtleties of sled-track design, there is a lot of value in this little package.

Line Rider 2 has something for everyone, but the game’s main story mode is quite demanding.

Line Rider is immense simple/complex (simplex? Comple?) fun if you’re the right kind of person, if you’re the target audience. If you’re not, you’ll be baffled as to what all the fuss is about, while the rest of us will justifiably mock you for the knuckle-trails you leave behind you as you walk.

It's unlikely to find the same massive audience that the free Flash game enjoys, but casual DS gamers looking for a puzzle fix now and then could play a lot worse.

Nintendo Gamer May 14, 2024
The trouble with Line Rider 2 is that while it's not short of options, the core idea can wear tin quite quickly.

Line Rider 2 is a unique experience for the DS that is only limited by a challenging interface. Yet once you get a decent track designed and watch your Rider sled away with reckless abandonment the excitement and fun kicks in.

Some players may still have the most fun with the basic freestyle mode, though, drawing a gigantic mess of loop-the-loops and seeing if the poor sledder survives them.(He usually doesn't.)

Not only is Story Mode deep and engaging, but Puzzle Creation adds infinite possibilities. Thirty bucks is still too much to spend, but considering the value, you'll have fun if you do.

The core concept of Line Rider 2: Unbound is solid and, for the patient among you, can provide hours of absorbing fun; however, the trial and error nature of the gameplay and some dubious collision detection in certain situations are enough to spoil the enjoyment on a far too regular basis.

Line Rider isn't a bad title, it's just that unless you are an ardernt fan then there is no real value here.

It's not a bad game; there are some good ideas here, and once you get a handle on the creation mechanics, then it's a fairly satisfying game.

As a creative tool Unbound is great, but as a game it feels a little sparse.

Those who don't want to bother with creating their own artwork in this rather particular form, however, may wish to skip the title. Those who aren't sure either way should probably give the online original a try and decide from that.

Edge Magazine May 14, 2024
One of the most robust online community setups to grace Nintendo’s handheld, enabling users to link the DS game to a web profile, where they can browse and queue tracks for later download.

Nintendojo May 14, 2024
You're better off playing the online Line Rider, which gives you the same experience at no cost whatsoever.

Pocket Gamer UK May 14, 2024
The attempt to make Line Rider into a DS game fails thanks to fiddly controls and the fact it's not as fun or convenient as the web version.

RealGamer May 14, 2024
So the popular Internet game has failed to make a smooth transition to Nintendo’s handheld, providing a frustrating experience with the only real highlight being its level creation mode.
