Aside from these minor quibbles and instances of tedium, the story progresses at a respectable clip, with plenty of twists and surprises to keep things interesting.

It’s a fun game, but some of the flaws such as the weird battle system and HP loss while running could ruin the experience for you.

It does tragically little to expand the saga or enrich our understanding of the Lunar universe. Instead, the story feels like merely a means of shepherding the player from one monster-filled dungeon to the next.

The learning curve is gentle enough for first time RPGers while the scale of the story should appease RPG veterans.

Even though this game was trash, if it gets enough support, then there may be hope for a <I>real</I> Lunar 3 in the future.

Lunar DS isn't really up to the thrilling and dramatic heights the series was synonymous. Worse, the changes and tweaks the developers made, trying to bring Lunar into the 21st century, are irrelevant at best and annoying at worst. That said, this is a better-than-average handheld RPG with a likable cast, a charming story, and appealing graphics.

The battles are a bit boring and run for too long, and the game doesn’t utilize the Nintendo DS hardware much.

Combing an area twice (once for experience, again for items) becomes tedious and aggravating.

Taken on its own, the game is not all that inspiring, and when compared with other RPGs, it is somewhat boring and tends to wear out its welcome long before the final confrontation.

If you really need a DS RPG, you could check this out. Just be warned that the combat system is very frustrating.

Dragon Song doesn't completely suck. It has flaws. It has numerous crushing issues. It's an RPG you shouldn't probably be even wasting your time on if you care for RPGs at all.

A noble attempt to bring the Lunar universe back to the fore, but the lack of features that made the series popular and the dated, old-school visual style take too much away from the game.

The nuts and bolts of combat are decent, although the pacing drags in this area as well.

Your characters move like drunken sailors while they explore. The game is surprisingly lengthy in a good way.

Everything except the combat is needlessly confusing and frustrating, as if they were purposefully trying to make gamers mad. In comparison, the combat is too simple and almost dumbed down to make this an RPG For Dummies, DS Edition.

Obviously, your choices for RPG’s on the DS aren’t overwhelming, so if you can’t wait for something better to come along, give this a shot. It’s not terrible, but one can only imagine how good this could have been.

Unfortunately, the end result is a game that's convoluted where you want it to be simple, and shallow where you wish it had some depth. Even the most devout Lunar loyalists will have a hard time enjoying this game.

Graphics and sound for the game are merely competent; not too bad, not too great. The combat sequences have an extremely blurry, pixilated look to them, owing to the pseudo-3D used to move the camera around.

This RPG exudes some of the series' old school charm, but its dated combat and uninspired visuals fails to impress modern gamers.

The story is cute and simple, like all the Lunar games, but is held back by a questionable localization.
