Summary

After taking a bullet during World War II and returning home to Empire Bay on leave, Sicilian immigrant Vito Scaletta discovers that his late father was indebted to a loan shark. He needs to make a lot of money fast, and thanks to his career criminal best friend Joe, soon becomes entangled with the mob. As Vito, you need to prove yourself by committing crimes of escalating reward, status, and consequence. But what happens when your motivations become less about necessity and more about greed? When having it all is not enough? For the first time ever, Mafia II: Definitive Edition packs the entire Mafia II crime drama into one HD package. HDR and 4K resolution are supported on PC as well as on PlayStation®4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles. Mafia II: Definitive Edition also benefits from improved facial animations to give cutscenes an even more cinematic feel. While technological and graphical improvements have given Empire Bay and its inhabitants a visual overhaul, Vito's timeless story is unchanged.

The new version of Mafia 2 is more polished, cleaner and more detailed than ever before, but the problems with the plot, mission development, character development, driving and gunplay are still present. Ultimately, players who still own the original (now dubbed "classic") version of the game on Steam, had better stick to it.

This remastered version of Mafia II features improved graphics and nice lighting effects, but the title can't deny its age due to the slightly rough and stiff characters. The open world remains limited to the place you're supposed to visit, and NPCs have behaviors that don't necessarily help make them credible. However, the storyline is interesting from the beginning to the end and the thrilling soundtrack of the title help to overcome its small imperfections. And, icing on the cake, the fact that all 3 DLCs are included allows you to enjoy Empire Bay a little more if you found the main adventure too short and want to continue your life as a gangster.

Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is a decent buy for anyone that hasn't played the original (on PC, anyway). It's a more complete package with superior graphics, but there are definitely aspects of the game that haven't aged well.
