Amazon's Mass Effect television show is now in "active development" from the writer of F9 The Fast Saga, (the one with a car that goes into space).
Variety reports that Amazon has finally brought to life the Mass Effect TV Series after purchasing the rights to it three years ago.
Amazon has said that the project is currently in development. Details are scarce at this point, but Amazon claims it's already underway. Fast 9: The Fast Saga author Daniel Casey will pen a script and executive produce the film along with Karim Zareik and Ari Arad. Michael Gamble, from EA, will also be involved.
Zreik produced a number of superhero shows for Marvel, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Luke Cage and The Punisher were also produced by Zreik. And Arad has produced other game adaptations like Borderlands and Uncharted. F9 is the Fast & Furious movie where they drive a vehicle into space. Successfully. This was presumably a major part of Casey’s interview.
Unknown are the details of what will be in the show and whether Commander Shepard himself will appear. The Mass Effect universe has been covered by all kinds of media, including outside of games. It could be anything. If I don't find my big buddy Wrex, I will be very upset.
Amazon has not even hinted about a release date. As an example, the Fallout TV series debuted in 2020. It was announced two years later. So it may be a while before we see a asari or turian on screen. Amazon's decision to go all-out on the Mass Effect TV series was probably influenced by the explosive success of the Fallout TV series, which won two Emmy Awards with 65 million viewers. It could be that the Fallout series was released without a new game to engage the audience.
BioWare teased the game for many years and now that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out, it may be released in the next few years along with whatever the TV series will be.
