BioWare says N7 Day this year will be "quieter" than previous years.
We know BioWare has been working on a Mass Effect sequel since at least 2021. It's teased it with cryptic Tweets and video clips, which, for some, have caused more frustration than excitement. Some fans, given all this, and the fact Dragon Age: The Veilguard has now been released, are sure to hope that the next N7 Day will bring some sort of reveal. It is unlikely that it will.
BioWare posted a message on X saying, "We hope that everyone is enjoying Dragon Age: The Veilguard." It's just a few more days until N7 Day, and this year it will be quieter due to launch. Check back in a few days for some fun!
N7 Day is a celebration of all things Mass Effect, which takes place on November 7. It's named after the highest-level N7 rank in the Systems Alliance military for special forces. N7 is the only N7 designation that is allowed on uniforms. This is why Commander Shepard can run around with the label on their armor, but you won't find any N6 or N3 types.
N7 Day used to be a big deal when Mass Effect also was. But it's become a quiet affair ever since Mass Effect: Andromeda made a mockery of the whole thing. BioWare has used the day mainly to remind people that Mass Effect is still around. It's become awkward.
Casey Hudson released what could be regarded as the first teaser for a new Mass Effect in 2018 on N7 Day, but he then left the studio in 2020 to work on his own sci-fi adventure. I don't believe it counts any more.
It's possible that BioWare simply doesn't have any new information to share. It's a little surprising that, despite the focus being on Dragon Age, there hasn't been much information about Mass Effect 5. All we know so far is that the game will be led by veterans of the original trilogy and won't have a Veilguard style aesthetic change. If the alternative to "quiet", however, is a quickfire game that results in unremarkable concepts, then I'll gladly take it.
