If you want to make your own robots and make them fight monsters, pay attention to Mech Armada. This turn based strategy mixed with rogue-lite feature gives you a room to try various tactics. Even though the depth of strategy is pretty shallow, the entry barrier is also low enough so that anyone can enjoy.
