Visually, the game is amazingly detailed and incredibly animated; in terms of level design and obstacle placement, it is superb.

Just what I want to see happen to the Mega Man series - classic gameplay with extra enhancements for more depth, Zero 2 is a fantastic step in the right direction.

It doesn't play with the formula too much, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

To date, the Zero series has really become the gem in the series, with its incredibly fun gameplay, immersive backgrounds and storyline, and a hero who, in my opinion, is a lot cooler than Mega Man.

It's very demanding and frequently frustrating, but it's a lot of fun (more fun than the original, for sure) for those who have what it takes. The game also rewards the elite more than any other game of its type.

The intense difficulty may turn some people off, but, otherwise, Mega Man Zero 2 is the kind of game that belongs in the collection of anyone who considers themselves an aficionado of action games.

The level design more than makes up for any sort of qualm you might have with originality since the extreme difficulty will keep you on edge and playing for plenty of hours.

The chain-rod, (though not perfect) as well as the other new features add just enough to keep the formula from getting stale. The fast and exciting gameplay will keep you on your toes and immersed in the game.

Despite its daunting start, in the single-player mode, MMZ2 plays very much like an enhanced version of its predecessor, which is a good thing.

What it lacks in new elements it makes up for it in tighter design and more ass-kicking level designs...don't think for a second that this game is going to be a simple trek through.

If you're a Mega Man fan, Zero 2 shouldn't disappoint, just remember that it's still just as difficult as it ever was.

Nintendo Power June 5, 2024
The play control, graphics and enemy design are top-notch, but the over-the-top difficulty may hinder your enjoyment unless you're an elite player.

Although MMZ2 fails to deliver anything substantially new (sorry, Phil, powering up a blaster isn't exactly innovation), at least it serves up a solid action romp.

Game Informer June 5, 2024
Zero's ability to change forms based on how the player performs is a neat twist, and two-player action is something this series could have used long ago. But these additions are balanced out with a severely uneven difficulty level and stages rife with cheap hits.

Unless you're simply determined to pay $30 for a painfully hard version of a game you've probably played countless times before in its previous incarnation, you can live without this one.

All the GBA's power is utilized here to make a truly gorgeous little outing.

As far as a sequel goes, Zero 2 contains the absolute least amount of improvements for me to consider it a good sequel. It's not great, and I'm sure Capcom knows that. There's nothing here that would cause anyone to believe this game was innovative.
