Mojang has revealed the first update of Minecraft's year-round schedule: a creepy forest biome inhabited by a monster that is hard to kill
Mojang announced the next update to Minecraft Live 2024 today, the first in a new, regular cadence. The Pale Garden and its resident critter The Creaking are scheduled to go live in the "next few months." Players will also find them on snapshots, betas and previews very soon.
The Pale Garden was revealed at the end of the presentation. There was also some back and forth, as well a new scene taken from the upcoming Minecraft Movie. The quality is more or less in line with the first trailer.
The Pale Garden is a new forest biome that will be similar to a mangrove swamp in real life, with moss covering the trees and low visibility. There won't be any wildlife, at least during the day. The developers of Mojang have emphasized that they want to create a sense of eerie terror with the biome. They describe it as atmospheric and isolated.
The Creaking will appear at night. The misshaped tree men move with sounds of snapping twigs and grating wood. They look like something from the Witcher. The Creaking mobs will not only look spooky but also be mechanically different from other Minecraft mobs. They will only move when they are not being observed, and you cannot directly damage them. Each one is tied to a "Creaking heart" that's hidden in the forest. You will have to destroy it.
The new biome looks like a fun addition for Minecraft. I also like how Mojang is embracing the game's uncanny aspects with this update. The Pale Garden is not yet available, but it should be out before the end the year. You can also view a recap of the livestream today on the Minecraft website.
