The arachnophobia feature in Monster Hunter Wilds turns mosquitos into - brace yourselves - raunchy humping sludges that more than 100,000 people mistakenly believe are jumping their bones.

Arachnophobia filtering is a thing of the past, but there's no one-size fits all solution. The solutions are as random as they are thoughtful. From turning spider-zombies in to terrifying floating leeches, to going full-tilt Crab mode. Capcom has turned the mosquitos in Monster Hunter Wilds into slimes. Take a look.

You might think that people are misinterpreting the original author of the post based on this emoji, but it's not true. A quick machine translation reveals that: "Isn’t the anti-arachnophobia mod more erotic?"

Listen. PC Gamer is no stranger to a little salaciousness, but I am usually the first to show cynicism towards the smutt-brained imaginations of the Internet at large. I'm always curious to know why these things happen, but my first reaction is skepticism. Let me tell you, not today. This slime is humping this person 100%. The prosecution rests.

I can see where Capcom is coming from. It's the spider/mosquito's natural instinct to bite something to death. Slimes, on the other hand, are there to dissolve and absorb things, like D&D's gelatinous cubicle. The way it undulates makes clear that, to quote Robin Valentine, when I shared it in our work Slack "it's doing something deeply illicit with that particular character".

Based on the number of likes for the post, over 100,000 people seem to agree that this is a very naughty sludge. This is a lot of consensus for an unimportant clip from the Monster Hunter Wilds beta. It only started two days ago. The 22,000+ quotes form a sea of "hear my outs", which includes FF14 Youtuber Pint who I have written about on this site before and who now has only a moderately reduced respect for after shattering the Kugane tower world record.

If I was braver, I would explain to the poor, innocent layman, that yes, there are people on the internet who think slimes look cool. I won't do that. I'm not going to do that. Instead, I will inform you that this open beta test is running until November 3. This will be your final chance to get wet and wild with a jelly blob until the official release of the game on February 28, 2025.
