Iceborne retroactively enhances Monster Hunter: World while adding so much content that you could safely call it a sequel. It’s clear Capcom has perfected their winning formula.

It’s a brilliant expansion that is a must-play for anyone who’s a fan of the original game, and for anyone who hasn’t dipped their toes into what the series has to offer. I thought that Monster Hunter World was the best that the series was ever going to get, but Iceborne effortlessly proved me wrong, time and time again.

Iceborne is one of the very best examples of how to produce paid content for a AAA game. It fixes almost all of World's issues, and adds so much to the package. It doesn't feel like an expansion; it feels like a sequel. A fantastic experience.

If Monster Hunter: World was Capcom ambitiously reinventing Monster Hunter for a current-generation home console, then Iceborne has been them aggressively laying the groundwork for the series’ future, confident in the game that they have created. It’s rare that you see a company pour this much time and budget into a simple expansion, let alone a little more than a year and a half after a game’s release. Not only is Iceborne the largest expansion that the series has ever seen, it no longer remains a question if Monster Hunter: World is the best that the series has to offer. With Iceborne’s release, there’s simply no contest.

I absolutely love this expansion and considering that Monster Hunter World is one of my favorite games of this generation, it’s been great to have this excuse to revisit it. I look forward to playing more and more, and I’m excited to see what type of content updates Capcom rolls out in the future.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne adds just what Monster Hunter World needed and even more quality of life changes to the greatest Monster Hunter game of all time. The new monsters and quests pack a punch, and there’s enough content to justify the price. If you’re going to take on this cool expansion, make sure you bring along some friends and a few hot drinks.

As the follow up to the best selling game that Capcom has ever made and my personal pick for game of the year, it’s an understatement to say that there was a lot to live up to. Luckily, the masters at Capcom were more than up for the challenge and delivered on an expansion that highlights the unforgettable moments of triumph the series is synonymous for while moving forward with clever new mechanics that enhance the Monster Hunter experience to its finest iteration.

The new monsters in Iceborne are the main topic worth talking about. The return of some from other games in the Monster Hunter franchise is enough to make Iceborne a worthy purchase. It’s a chance to see monsters in higher definition quality than the graphics of older consoles and in many cases, handheld ones. Capcom presents a way to appreciate old monsters as if seeing them for the first time through new eyes.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne comes close to matching the perfection of the first adventures with the Fifth Fleet but this new expansion is all but guaranteed to lead to more times being carted back to camp.

Between revisions and additions to the gameplay, improvements to the quality of life of the players, and a simply surprising amount of content, Iceborne inherits all the strengths of the base game and further amplifies its enjoyment, coming to rewrite the rules of a potentially endless endgame.
