Summary

Even in their defeat, the Gahars never truly died. They went to slumber and bode their time, waiting patiently for their opportunity to rise.

Morbid: The Lords of Ire is the next installment to the critically acclaimed isometric souls-like ARPG "Morbid: The Seven Acolytes" featuring unnerving aesthetics, abysmal monsters, and gore galore.

Battle your way through the five worlds of Ire - disgusting horrorpunk realms populated by five unique factions, from wintry mountains to rotten cities and beyond. Eviscerate the five fallen lords of Ire and banish the Gahars.

While intriguing in concept, Morbid: The Lords of Ire entertains with its combat but falls short in story and gameplay depth. With its issues, limited build options, and lack of subtitles, the title ultimately becomes unappealing.

With some interesting tweaks to the formula, Morbid: The Lords of Ire can feel like a stripped down attempt at the souls-like genre. The runes system allows for some relatively neat weaponry and the combat has a solid feel. Unfortunately, it lacks some polish and some of the larger encounters can frustrate. The pacing begins to sag in the closing hours and it's a shame the sanity mechanic doesn't quite land.

Morbid: Lords of Ire brings a couple unique things to the Soulsborne genre, like how to upgrade weapons and a simplified but enjoyable combat experience. While progression on all fronts lacks the polish needed to strengthen its case, Soulsborne fans should give it a try, especially at $30.
