Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2, and the Path of the Ninja series as a whole, is proof that an RPG based on a popular license can be good.

A significant improvement over the first, Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 is one of the best original (non-port) RPGs released for the DS platform. Naruto fans will definitely be engrossed by the story and anime-inspired scenarios, but this is also a quality role-playing game that RPG fans will want to check out.

Path of the Ninja 2 is basically D3 making the best with what they had, and doing something impressive with it.

Much of the gameplay is stale, the story is simple, and the presentation is devoid of character.

On the one hand, it's new; on the other, it feels like a fairly standard filler episode in the anime series.

Diehard fans of the series will enjoy it, as they've enjoyed the wealth of other products featuring the grinning face of the No. 1 knucklehead ninja over the past three years. But the rest of the DS owning crowd has far better role-playing experiences to look to on Nintendo's handheld, and shouldn't worry about walking down this Path.

In just about every regard, Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 is repetitive and average.

Story mode is long enough to keep you engaged, and the online mode is amusing for a few rounds. However, I can’t imagine getting more than seven or eight hours of playtime out of this title.

Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 was a game that set itself up to be an improvement over the last one. While it has improved in every category, the game is still on the boring side, and increasing the play-through time from 8 hours to 10 hours really doesn’t make it that much worthwhile.

Unfortunately, once you level up enough, you can get through the game simply by mashing the "attack" button, which doesn't say much about the game's complexity.

Despite the appealing online component, I can’t recommend Path of the Ninja 2 to anyone mildly interested in Naruto or portable RPG’s, as there are better examples of both on the DS.

The point is, like the rest of this game, the story is okay. But just okay. And it only lasts maybe ten hours, though online-enabled multiplayer matches can extend that a bit. And to be honest, without more innovation (sorry, touch-screen minigames aren’t really new) it really doesn’t deserve to be any longer.

Having not watched Naruto before or played any other game, I found myself enjoying myself regardless of its graphic flaws.

The only reason to put any effort into the game at all is to set up a team for a multiplayer or Wi-Fi battle.

Naruto: Path of Ninja 2 is a missed opportunity, lacking consistency and polish. Fans may embrace the game for the Naruto brand alone, but the story and unadventurous level designs will fail to keep their interest. At least the battle mechanics are a step in the right direction.

Though it's an endearing attempt at evoking 16-bit nostalgia, Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 feels a little too dated.

Naruto Path of the Ninja 2 is only for fans of the Naruto universe and not for general Role Playing Game fans as this game was made for people who enjoy the universe only. Naruto Fan – Rental, Everyone Else – Skip.
