A brilliant marriage of mechanics, level design and music that will be played and talked about for years to come.

Nidhogg stands as one of the true kings of competitive gameplay, and that doesn't need to be patched one bit.

Nidhogg is a game to be enjoyed with friends while in the same room together, and it may be the best title you play that way this year.

It’s the most exhilarating competitive game I’ve played in years.

Nidhogg is not about lengthy stage lists, improvable online systems, fussy control mapping or AI. Nidhogg is about the purity of two friends on a couch duking it out as Daedelus’s moody dynamic electronica frames acrobatic displays of wits and reflexes. In that sense, it has no equal.

To put it plainly, Nidhogg is incredibly fun. If you can appreciate the game’s style for what it is and you don’t have an ego as fragile as glass, you’ll delight in testing your mettle against another’s.

Nidhogg is yet more proof that a simple concept with a simple goal can work, and work well. In a way, it reminds me of a Super Smash Brothers Melee tournament; simple combat and pure competition, that’s what makes Nidhogg so amazing.

Even with a grimy netcode and a poor single-player mode, Nidhogg is a perfectly balanced multiplayer experience. Accessible for the average gamer, ideal for the pro and striking for an evening with some friends.

The new levels feel rich and generous, and will absolutely reinvigorate the game for anyone who played it to death at indie gaming events.

Digital Chumps February 13, 2014
Expressed in modest trappings, Nidhogg quietly aims to recast the mold of a competitive fighting game.

So what we have here is a future-classic, old-school indie title for individuals and like-minded folk alike.

A peculiar, thrilling and essential addition to your PC games collection. Best played with friends/enemies.

Nidhogg is a very good game because it takes you back to the 1980s. With the basic control system, you can easily get used to teh playstyle. Daedelus has created the perfect musical score for the game. So, take your friend and play Nidhogg for hours or enjoy it by yourself.

If you’re keen on games that are easy to learn but difficult to master, Nidhogg is for you. The combat system is incredibly fun, and there are so many heart-stopping moments packed into each round that it’s tough to keep count. Once the online issues are fixed, it’ll be a source of constant competition for months to come.

A fantastic little indie gem, and the addition of online matchmaking allows me to recommend it without it being conditional on whether you have friends to play it with. It’s got simple, but deep combat and a well-designed, if a bit paltry, selection of levels, and it’s just a blast to play. Say hello to 2014’s first great game.

Nidhogg is the 8-bit Bushido Blade demake we never knew we wanted, offering up a sublime one-on-one fencing experience like no other. I just wish we got more.

The thrill of the fight condensed in a bunch of pixels. Antagonistic, competitive, biting.

Very competitive and rewarding experience, for gamers who ask an awesome mixture of tactics and action. Unfortunately the online multiplayer is suffering from what seems to be an rushed launch, but the value of the package is still great. Definitely a must buy if you still enjoy multiplayer gaming with friends in the same room.

We do not know a lot of fighting games that are so heavy on exciting sword battles like Nidhogg. The mechanics are very easy to learn, but yet hard to master and the colorful simplistic style fits the game perfectly.

Expertly balanced and mechanically brilliant, you can't do much better than Nidhogg when it comes to local multiplayer. There are concerns about Nidhogg's online mode, but Nidhogg's best played in person in any case.
