Outlast Trials celebrates Halloween by bringing back an old favourite program with even more jumpscares.

The Outlast Trials is the perfect game for Halloween if you want to experience a game that will make you scream and scream. It's also a game for those who are not afraid of blood, guts and gore. The developers have been able to deliver a new Halloween update despite a recent cyber-attack.

Red Barrels, the developer of Outlast, has always been interested in the MKUltra experimentation that took place in Montreal in the 1950s-60s. This Halloween update is no exception. The Murkoff Corporation, along with its scientists, will be testing new hallucinatory treatments on "volunteer participants" of Program Geister in this limited-time event.

Program Geister was launched last Halloween in conjunction with a similar limited time event. This program was made up of MK-Challenges and trials, as well as variators that revolved around hallucinations. In Program 3: Clear the Orphans there are five variants that can change how challenges are presented and introduce stronger enemies, imposters, hallucinations causing trauma and health restrictions and hide player names. All of these were designed to confuse players and place them in high-stress scenarios.

This time, players will be faced with the same old variations, but also new ones like extracting organs for analysis from dead Reagents. In The Outlast Trials where you are constantly chased by angry enemies, extracting samples can take several seconds.

The game also has a new MK Challenge called Eliminate the Past. Players are forced to shred documents revealing Murkoff's war crimes history. One of the less pleasant enemies promises better jumpscares. According to a press statement, "when your sanity begins to fade, you will receive a visit by the Skinner Man." If you are prone to psychosis while playing The Outlast Trials then you may be familiar with the Skinner Man. He is a strange ghostly entity with black tendrils coming out of his head. It's not fun to fight him, so it makes sense that players will encounter him more during the Halloween season.

A new sleep room minigame will also be available. Tennis, "the first digital game created by Murkoff exclusively for facility residents," will allow players to relax in between trials. This will be a digital version, not a real game, but I would be willing to give anything if it meant I wouldn't have to be humiliated by chess anymore.

The first part of Program Geister will take place from October 29 until November 12, and then the second part will be from November 12 to 26. You'll have plenty time to explore the Geister Event Catalog using currency you earn during the event. There will be new, exclusive cosmetics for Reagents and sleep chambers.
