Outlast Trials developers reveal more content for the end-of-year after a cyber incident set them back
Red Barrels, the developers of Outlast Trials, has announced their plans for the rest of the year and first half of 2025 despite a "cyber-incident" that initially set them back.
Red Barrels explains, "We wanted to share with you our Roadmap so that you could see what 2024 will bring for The Outlast Trials." "Geister is returning to the Sinyala facility with a new and unexpected twist next week!" Geister is a program which puts a twist on challenges. Some of the variations include no player names, enraged opponents, and hallucinations which deplete your health. We can expect to see a catalog of old and new Geister products, a lobby mini-game and a MK-Challenge in the game very soon.
The next major release that players can look forward to is Season 2. Along with that, there will be new content such as an event called Winter Kills. Other items include a map, catalog, MK Challenges, a rig and enemy NPCs. This looks to be the largest chunk of new content released since The Outlast Trials 1.0 earlier this year.
Red Barrels said that following the cyber incident, the team had been focusing on developing Season 2 and the new features it will bring, as well as new aspects to the game that will be coming next year. Players have not hesitated to express their delight.
One player said, "This is an amazing list, and it's very positive considering the recent incident." "I look forward to all of the great additions and thank you!" While everyone seems to be excited about the return of Program Geister, one player says: "Geister is my beloved!" This program is a collection of MK-Challenges, with variants that focus on hallucinations. It's creepy, unnerving and fun. Just what I like to watch around Halloween.
In regards to the "cyber-incident," Red Barrels posted a message at the beginning October revealing that studio had been a victim of a cyber-attack: "The Red Barrels Team regrets to announce its internal IT systems have recently been impacted by a recent cybersecurity event that involved access to some of their data. As soon as it was detected, security measures were taken to protect the system and its data.
"A group consisting of top-tier cybersecurity experts from outside has been tasked with conducting an in-depth investigation on the incident. We also notified the authorities and any stakeholders who may have been affected by the incident. We want to reassure our players that the event has not affected them. The investigation is now complete, and the security incident is contained. Our production schedule has suffered a significant hit. "We will do our best, but some things will need to be delayed."
After the recent roadmap release it seems that not many things were actually pushed back. It's also great to see that everything is getting back on track, especially for the developers who have made a big point of how understanding the community has been. Red Barrels said, "We truly appreciate our community's understanding and patience during this difficult time." "We are working hard to bring you fresh content to enjoy during the holidays!"
