This title is fun and encourages you to replay tracks and get the best scores, it misses a huge opportunity with multiplayer, and while players may not care in the short run, in the long run, this could have an affect on the game and the player base.

As a real off-road racing game, Overpass offers us a great game concept with a lot of challenges. On the other hand, there is a lack of strong elaboration and mediocre graphics.

Overpass is a unique style of racing game with solid foundations, but it feels like there wasn't enough time or budget to give it the polish it deserves. That's a shame. There’s a niche here which I’d like to spend more time in, but some of the frustrations run too deep for me to return anytime soon. Overpass remains a novel concept with some rough edges.

When it comes to physics and the driving simulation it fuels, Overpass is a great off-road experience, basically unlike any other racing game. But the career mode gets stale very quickly, the tuning falls flat on its face and the fixed camera is criminally frustrating.

Given its focus on just one thing, Overpass
doesn’t feel particularly realistic or weighty,
and you can certainly get more excitement
from conquering GTA V’s Mount
Chiliad. Still, it does what it does
without fuss, faffing, or frills, so
take it or leave it. We’d probably
leave it.

With a few tricks and greater optimization, it could assemble a respectable racing game.

Overpass, unfortunately, deserves to be passed on. The game offers an interesting concept, but fails in its execution. Framerate problems and a frustrating difficulty curve, as well as unnatural physics, are the main detractors.

Overpass has something interesting ideas, but fails in its attempt to put them all together, with a flawed balance in the difficulty and not-so-believable physics. It's a shame, because the game has a lot of personality and modes – yet, it feels frustrating.

Visually old-fashioned offroad sim located somewhere between Trials and Spintires. The tracks littered with obstacles are cool, the driving physics as well as the reset mechanics not so much.

Overpass is an interesting and unique take on the driving genre, but issues in the most integral areas of the game often make it a chore to play.

Overpass is a clumsy first effort that tries to explain the basics but leaves the player lacking feedback. The environments are well designed and varied but traversing them frustrates me. ATV's seem especially undercooked and tricky to balance. Career mode gives you something to work towards but it's a slim offering. The ideas are there but the execution leaves me unsatisfied.

Overpass has a neat idea at its core, but it's struggled to pull it off effectively. Surmounting treacherous terrain against the clock is sadly not as fun as it sounds, and you're more likely to get frustrated by the iffy handling and strict rules. There's the kernel of a good game here, and we don't doubt some people will enjoy overcoming this game's challenges, but a lack of polish where it matters most puts this game between a rock and a hard place.

Unfortunately these components that work do not do enough to elevate Overpass to the next level. Since the player never really feels connected to the action around them, there's a lack of cohesion that ends up being detrimental to the overall feel of the game. There is promise here, and its distinctive place in the market definitely makes it stand out, but the wider problems at large stop it from being a must have.

Overpass is a double edged sword by design. All its features which would make it appealing to genre veterans - a heavy emphasis on speed control, incredibly tight controls, and demanding track design - are exactly what'll deter most everyone else away from the title. Coupled with serious design flaws and it's hard to recommend this racing sim to anyone but those truly passionate about the genre. All the same, they're clearly Zordix Racing's target audience, with little concession made to welcome newcomers. While alienating, design philosophies like this ensure Overpass has a strong identity that doesn't pander to non-fans of the genre. Even if this is rough around the edges, its lack of handholding is quite commendable.

It’s delightful that marginal games like Overpass are coming out that serve the need of a very niche market. What is not pleasing, though, is that the quality of the game doesn’t match its full-price tag. For all intent and purposes, Overpass should be a budget title that would excuse some of its issues. As it stands now, I can’t help but think that Overpass feels like playing a PS2 game on an emulator in HD resolution. Maybe some 15 years ago it could have been a cutting edge, but now ... not.

A strange mix between realism and arcade that simply doesn’t work.

As they say, hell is paved with good intentions. And with Overpass, the intention was good. But its shortcomings in the modeling of vehicle reactions unfortunately do not allow to devote to it diligently. Maybe by helping the player a little more to understand why he fails (an index of motricity for example), by offering him replays or real training in such events, there would have been room for improvement. But as it stands, Overpass is more a source of frustration than pleasure.

There's really no way to gild this filthy lily - Overpass is an infuriating and deeply unsatisfying experience which should be given a wide berth by anyone who values their sanity.
