Overwatch 2 upsets fans by telling them to check out Kiriko's "grippers," proving once again that corporate accounts ruin jokes.
Overwatch 2's X social account surprised fans recently with a strange post about Kiriko's skin, or, specifically, her "grippers," which is going down as well as one would expect with the Overwatch 2 Community.
"Yatagarasu Kiriko has GRIPPERS?" The official Overwatch 2 social media account. "Drop in if you are excited for Kiriko's skin in Season 13." This post is so bizarre that I thought it was a parody.
Twitch streamer Warn simply asks "Bro, are you on main ???"?" This isn't just the first time the official social media account has been weird on the internet. The social media account previously responded to a fanart of Ramattra the kitten by saying: "purrs, and rubs your leg." No thank you.
Since the release of Sigma, jokes about Overwatch 2 heroes feet have been a common thing. This is because he floats around barefooted everywhere. The Tank's exposed toes became a joke that was repeated so often that half of the playerbase didn't find it funny. Since then, whenever a hero is barefooted players tend to make memes in a similar manner.
The problem is, jokes like these are only funny when they're ironic. And whenever I see a company get involved, the image of Steve Buscemi asking, "How are you, fellow kids?" pops into my head. My mind is flooded with the image of Steve Buscemi saying, "How do you do, fellow kids?" in 30 Rock.
Overwatch 2 has also a bad reputation when it comes objectifying its female characters. I remember the controversy over Blizzard changing one of Tracer’s victory poses, which some players complained was too sexualized. This caused a surprising level of chaos as people started screaming about censorship. There was also the fact that all of the female characters in the original Overwatch had the same facial design and body shape. Some players even pointed out that Brigitte resembled Mercy. This isn't to mention the countless NSFW fanarts of Overwatch characters that can be found online. Sometimes, I think Rule 34 has a symbiotic partnership with Overwatch. Posting a video of a female hero's feet is probably not the best way to go.
This post seems to be a harmless attempt to gain some laughs from the community. It's best to ignore it because Overwatch 2 Season 13 is packed with new content. There are new maps, a scoreboard, changes to heroes (one of them sent Sombra to the woodshed), as well as a Junkenstein Event that showcases an old PvE function. One of my favourite new additions is the amazing skins.
Blizzard's game has improved over the past few seasons, with both battle pass and shop cosmetics. This season, we've seen new mythics with particle effects like Widowmaker’s mythic witch or Reaper’s Anubis mythic. Ana's bog-witch skin is outstanding. The best skin is by far the Yatagarasu Kiriko. It's beautiful, and deserves more respect than an out-of-touch footage of her feet.
