It's different, it's solidly built on a smaller scale, and it delivers an easy-to-grasp, focused concept. It also earns praise for being a streamlined and problem-free RTS without falling into the pitfalls that have doomed so many others before it. That in itself is no mean feat, and Targem Games makes it look easy.

Because of its smooth strategic flow, Planets under Attack is one of the best couch strategy games since Risk Factions. But since Planets under Attack is always and only real-time, it's arguably an even better couch game.

In its best moments, Planets Under Attack can be a lot of fun. Once I started refining my strategies, I found hours melting away as I attempted to beat various stages on the more difficult settings. Good content and some intense stages can be found in Planets Under Attack, but you have to become accustomed to the quirks in order to get to them.

Planets Under Attack has become a really enjoyable game. The concept the game introduces is fun, but can become a little repetitive. The story mode has some points of critique, but the skirmish mode on the other hand is a real joy. Try to play the game with one of your friends, because that way you will get the full experience out of the game.

It's a minor relief to compete against slower-moving humans, and the option to play as robots who behave a bit differently injects a smidgen of variety. But even in online games, paltry tactical options and awkward controls makes Planets feel shallow and clumsy.

While it attempts to provide an accessible strategic space challenge, Planets Under Attack is sucked into a black hole instead.
