Prince of Persia Classic Critic Reviews

The best. Only better. A 2D game of this quality, lushly redesigned, is worth a hundred 3D romps.

I really loved Prince of Persia Classic. It was more than just your typical “enhancement” we find in so many other XBLA titles, yet it remained totally true to the source material while cleverly working in a few elements from the more recent console games.

Prince of Persia has always been about getting through each challenge as quickly as possible, thanks to the one-hour time-limit on the game. Thus, it makes for a perfect Live Arcade action game, as it basically comes with built-in leaderboard support.

It is hard to complain about what is easily the best looking Xbox Live Arcade game yet and quite possibly the most well rounded one too. Whether you care about saving princesses or not, Prince of Persia is a game of royal calibre.

Fluid and uniquely told. A classic reborn.

There's a reason the Prince is still popular almost twenty years later, and this is it.

Prince of Persia Classic is certainly short, but it's oh so sweet. This is one of the best games released on XBLA to date and the template all future enhanced classic games should follow. If it weren't for the brevity of the experience, POP Classic would be, well, an instant classic.

Regardless of whether you've never played the classic before or you're a seasoned veteran, Prince of Persia Classic is definitely worth checking out.

It’s a solid piece of gaming history brought back to the fore by a publisher and developer with an eye for modern flair. It’s not overdeveloped or taken in such a different direction that it loses sight of the fun and appeal the original game offered.

Now, this iteration of the classic game shows that with some love and polishing, these old favorite games of ours really do stand the test of time, and even outperform some new games.

I’m happy to report that this is one of the better retro revamp titles to come along. Despite that, many gamers will have to give this game a second thought before spending the 800 points, due to the low replay value and lack of multiplayer.

Prince of Persia Classic is a fine example of how to modernize an older game while keeping its appeal intact.

Prince of Persia probably has some of the best graphics to date on the Arcade, it can even match some retail titles which is a truly great accomplishment of the developers with only 50MB available. Is it worth the 800 MS Points? Definitely, the few cons of the game don’t weigh up against the solid gameplay and good looking graphics.

Either way, Prince of Persia looks good on the Live Arcade, and it’s certainly a decent value at 800 MS Points.

A good update of a classic game, but you’ll only enjoy it if you enjoy classic gameplay.

For the short time that the game does last it is an example of how Live Arcade titles should be done and how an old game can be refurbished, yet still retain a nostalgic edge to please all types of players.

There's never been a better time to sample one of the greats. Fact.

Although exploration is the core of the game—and like every game in this series, the best part—combat happens frequently and will likely be the main cause of frustration. Still, if you can stick it out through the hard bits, Prince of Persia Classic is definitely a worthwhile download. It’s a welcome walk down memory lane—when it’s not causing shouts of pain and anguish.

In fact, developer Gameloft has managed to give the game a beautiful 3D overhaul and a few minor gameplay updates while mostly maintaining its timeless brilliance.

Hardcore fans of the Prince of Persia series might want to pick this one up if you’re curious as to how the series began, but don’t expect a stellar experience like Sands of Time.
