Surprising and versatile, Project Spark is a very nice videogame editor, with some issues due to its young age and a potentially bright future ahead.

There’s just something about its robust creation modules that makes sense to me in a way most other game-making games don’t.

Project Spark allows you to unleash the gaming creator inside you.

Despite some rough edges and weak audio, Project Spark is a must-buy for anyone interested in game design.

If you just want to play, this is a great choice, since you can access all the community levels for free. If you want to create, you've got a very accessible and powerful tool, but keep in mind you'll need a lot of time or some real money to unlock content.

Learning the obtuse and complicated systems is surprisingly enjoyable, because you’ll see satisfying results instantly when you conquer a problem.

A fascinating and powerful editor, that gives a lot of freedom to its users. Right now the number of user created levels and games is still mediocre at best, but the quality is rapidly growing, and the future for Project Spark looks bright.

As soon as you invest the requisite time and a bit of cash in Project Spark, you'll find it to be a wonderful tool that leaves little to be desired.

Project Spark surely delivers a new creative experience in the game-makers genre, offering the opportunity to quick play or edit levels and worlds from thousands of users. But when it comes to being a proper game, Team Dakota's title suffers the modern inception as a free-to-play experience and the expensiveness of the physical Starter Pack.

This free-to-play 'build-your-own-game'-game is pretty straight forward. The public beta is almost identical to the end product. There are already some amazing home build games to play, but if you want to build your own levels, you will probably be spending some money.

Project Spark won't have you churning out incredible games like a development powerhouse. It will, however, provide you an accessible set of tools and assets to begin the process of bringing your dream games to life. This won't happen overnight, so plan on spending a lot of time here if you are ever going to make something memorable.

A creative and inventive bag of tricks with plenty to keep you occupied despite its limitations.

Project Spark is a very good game, certainly worth your time, and since it’s free-to-play it’s also worth your money. However, it’s also a frustrating game, requiring hours of devotion in order to make something worthwhile, and even MORE hours of devotion to grind out the items you need for your Magnum Opus.

Plenty of options and easy to use creation tools, Project Spark is a very deep free to play game creator - simulator.

Game Informer October 19, 2014
Project Spark offers an impressive collection of tools for tinkerers, or even someone who might want to try prototyping an idea, but the experience is what you’re willing to make of it. It won’t make a designer out of everyone, but if you’re eager to invest and study, it can be a versatile and enjoyable tool.

Project Spark feels more like a tool to make your own videogames than a videogame on its own. We are not too fond of the in game transactions, but other than that Project Spark is free to play and gives you the opportunity to make in depth levels.

For the creators out there, check out the free version to see if you can come to grips with the system, but dive in to the Starter pack if you want a wider range of elements to jumpstart your creative endeavors.

The most powerful game creation tool ever released for a console, but it’s less accessible than it could be and the endless microtransactions leave a predictably sour taste.

Project Spark is a fantastic creation tool with some severe growing pains.

Project Spark could collapse without a more robust curation system to highlight the creations that need playing.
