Pronty may have some minor flaws, but this is overall a very solid Metroidvania that does a lot to set itself apart from the pack. Things like the impressive atmosphere, challenging boss fights, and oodles of worthwhile collectibles keep drawing you further into the experience, while the promise of multiple endings will keep you coming back for more. And though combat feels like it could use a little more tightening up, it’s certainly a unique system that fits well with the underwater setting. If you’re at all a fan of Metroidvanias, we’d encourage you to pick this one up; it’s not an absolute must-play, but it is an attractive, challenging, and thoroughly enjoyable undersea romp.

Pronty is a fun underwater metroidvania, with a sprawling map sprinkled with fun yet unforgiving bosses and a unique combat system. Its story is simple, but has a clear environmental message that resonates without being laid on too thick.

Pronty grows well in a giant garden of metroidvanias, though it doesn’t fully blossom. It presents flaws that can dampen the experience yet is unique and innovative enough for those familiar with the genre. The challenges of the various boss fights are fun to tackle, even though the standard combat can be mundane. Further, the introduction and narrative may be lackadaisical, but the pacing picks up to keep you engaged. And the style of the game is remarkable, even if the ambiance can be dim. Regardless, this is a solid and enjoyable metroidvania that excites me to see what potential future lies for the developers at LIGHT18.

While maybe a little too challenging on regular difficulty, Pronty joins the legion of engaging Metroidvanias on Switch, offering engaging aquatic combat and exotic underwater locations. There could be more exploration elements here, but those who come just for the gauntlet will be glad to greet some genre-defining bosses.

This is one of the most accessible Metroidvanias to embark on. Pronty’s underwater excavation in a city, crawling with well-designed bosses is one for both newcomers and seasoned players of the genre. Combat is lacklustre and it doesn’t reinvent in any game-changing capacity, but it sure is a world worth diving deep in.

A gorgeous art style ties the piece together, combining cute, cartoony characters, subaquatic wonder, and the ominous atmosphere of submerged ruins. Metroidvania fans are spoiled for choice right now, and while Pronty may not be remembered as the best of the best, it’s an enjoyable take on the genre with plenty of fresh ideas.

For the most part, not to include the downfalls, this game could be a quite fun and unique adventure into the deep blue sea. It’s full of creative creatures you can learn about and some that might make you laugh or scare you. The combat using your friend is something original, especially when that friend is a swordfish robot, or whatever you’d like to think of this fish as. It really uses the main thing of teamwork when enjoying this game. I honestly found it quite entertaining, challenging, and remarkable with the display of art at every level as you swim through each section of this maze-like game.

Pronty strives for Metroid’s depth but ends up a shallow dip in contaminated waters.
