For simulation fans and hardcore railroad simulation fans, Railroad Pioneer will fit right in with your collection. Who knows, maybe the Pioneer can become the new Tycoon?

The aspects it draws on do add a new element to the genre although they do slow down the action, making you work even harder to build your railway. The presentation makes the game feel half complete and the learning curve on the interface is unnecessary and sloppy on the tutorial.

The interface is nigh on impenetrable. The system of exploration is ludicrous (the whole map is blacked out at the start, so at first you don't even know where the mountains lie). The scenarios are uninspiring. The combat is pointless and passes practically unnoticed.

At the heart of this pretty below average game lies potential that could have made a largely enjoyable business management title.
