Rainbow Six Siege players are already selling gun skins for hundreds of dollars in new marketplace beta
Ubisoft has launched the beta version of the Rainbow Six Marketplace, allowing players to sell their unused cosmetics for in-game currency, and it’s already generating a buzz. Although the marketplace is currently open for viewing, only a select group of beta testers can buy and sell items. Despite its limited access, the marketplace boasts thousands of listings for various gun skins, headgears, outfits, and charms, with some items fetching high prices.
The beta testers have wasted no time in utilizing the marketplace, with transactions revealing significant spending on rare items. Among the most coveted are the "Glacier" gun skins from the first season in 2016. Currently, 12 Glacier MP5 skins are listed, with the latest one selling for 20,000 R6 Credits, equivalent to around $125. Other high-priced items include the Death Sentence Jäger headgear, which sold for 35,000 credits (approximately $200), a 2018 Six Invitational charm that sold for 50,000 credits (over $300), and a 2019 Six Invitational 416-Carbine skin that reportedly sold for over $600 worth of credits.
While it is challenging to verify the accuracy of all these listings at this early stage, it is clear that real transactions are occurring. Some listings show a high "last sold" price but no current orders, indicating either a sell-out of rare cosmetics or test listings used for the beta.
Players are willing to pay substantial amounts for these rare items, as most were only available during limited events or tournaments and are now unobtainable. The strong start for the marketplace, which has been online for less than a day, mirrors the high-value transactions seen in Counter-Strike’s marketplace, where individual skins can sell for thousands of dollars. However, unlike Counter-Strike, R6 Credits in the Rainbow Six Marketplace can only be used to buy other in-game items. Ubisoft has implemented measures to keep the economy within the game and prevent gray market activities.
It’s important to note that not all R6 cosmetics are eligible for sale. Only items previously obtainable through Alpha Packs or events can be sold; bundles purchased directly from the in-game store cannot be listed.
While some players are making significant profits, others may find their inventory less lucrative. For instance, the most valuable skin I own is only worth around $15, so it seems my path to riches through Siege will be a bit longer.
Overall, the Rainbow Six Marketplace is off to a promising start, with high engagement from players eager to trade their rare cosmetics for in-game currency. As the beta progresses and more players gain access, it will be interesting to see how the marketplace evolves and impacts the game's economy.
