The PS4 version's store page proudly 'announced" the PC port of Red Dead Redemption.
The writers of PC Gamer, including myself, were staring at the store page description of Red Dead Redemption, a game that hadn't been released on PC since its 2010 debut. We were trying to figure out why the proud announcement of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption was so buffed up, a game which hasn't been released on PC since its 2010 debut.
It's gone now, but I was able to take a screenshot. Mind you, we only saw it because of the prolific and eagle eyed industry tweeter Wario64. I can confirm that the store page was exactly as follows, unless everyone was experiencing a collective delirium.
"Experience epic western adventures that defined an entire generation, now on PC for the very first time." The announcement continues to say that the port includes both Red Dead Redemption 2010's base game and the Undead Nightmare extension.
Red Dead Redemption includes all of the 2023 console versions upgrades, as well as PC-specific enhancements such as support for multiple displays, increased resolutions, and frame rates, plus spatial surround audio.
This glut of features has one exception: the absence of multiplayer content. It's a shame but it's in line with the lack online support of the PS4 version released last year.
The "announcement", in and of itself, is a puzzler. Why would the PlayStation store page have a copy of the announcement if a PC version is in the works? Rockstar is owned by Take-Two Interactive and not Sony. If the studio wanted to keep the announcement a secret, I don't know why it would send press releases to its friends. It's also possible that Sony wrote this press release after being told the news. In which case, oops.
Although we've seen datamined information in the past months that strongly hint at a new port, there's still no guarantee it's coming soon. It's possible someone from Rockstar, Sony or their PR companies wrote this copy months in advanced and it just popped up above the trenches by accident.
It's also interesting how this keeps happening to storefronts - not necessarily leaks, but strange incongruities and snafus. Take Silksong. It had a release year of 9998 on the Microsoft Store for months without anyone noticing. Two-Point Campus also leaked in the same store some time ago. I've reached out to Rockstar and will update this article if I receive a response.
