Multiplayer-only and mod-oriented, Rekoil offers visuals and online features which are too under-developed to be popular among the FPS fans. Not surprisingly, the servers are almost deserted already.

The problems of Rekoil are many, starting with the unbalanced weapon system to the extremely annoying and frequent visual bugs. The respawn system has been miscalculated. Bad sound, animations and poor 3D models come together to provide a badly balanced game.

Unfortunately, while its developer can roll out a patch to improve its performance, it can’t roll out a patch that will increase its player-count. With that being said it is impossible to recommend Rekoil, a game which is swiftly heading towards stagnation before it ever had a chance to prove itself.

There's actually no one online to play Rekoil, and that's because the game was broken at the time of its release. Many problems were solved, but the experience is still dull and uninspiring.

Rough around the edges would be an understatement. Sadly, it's just hard to find a reason why you should play Rekoil, given the abundance of choices in its genre.

Rekoil is an uninspired first-person shooter that fails to deliver on any of its promise.

Unattractive, uninspiring, and unstable, Rekoil tries to be every other shooter out there, but one would have more fun with almost any other shooter out there.

There was more to the classic shooters than speedy movement and accurate guns, which is just about all Rekoil has going for it. The rest is a mess of bugs and bad design choices.

Rekoil suffers from game-breaking glitches that range from aggravating to completely bewildering.

Rekoil is a banal title with poorly implemented features, confusing UI and ugly aesthetics. I can appreciate what Plastic Piranha tried to do, but sadly they have failed to deliver on promises of balanced, competitive gameplay – and even on some of the basic core mechanics of a competent FPS.

If you want a multiplayer-only shooter without spending $60, there are plenty of options for cheap (Gotham City Impostors) or completely free (Team Fortress 2). Normally, this is the part of the review where I’d reiterate that you should not play Rekoil under any circumstance, but from the abundance of deserted maps I saw, it seems that most gamers have already received that memo.
