What I don't like is the ugly non-Namco designed interface and screwy button configuration when plaing with the stylus, which makes it literally impossible to play with the manual transmission.

While Asphalt: Urban GT slightly edges out Ridge Racer DS in visuals and variety of gameplay, Ridge Racer DS comes with an undeniable legacy and built-in audience from both PlayStation and N64 camps and continues to represent arcade racing in its purist form.

A solid racing game that looks good and sounds fantastic while offering a real challenge!

An instant classic just as the original was while providing a new experience in control. It’s a testament to the capabilities of the DS and worthy of being a launch title.

A great game if you’re looking for a racer that you’ll spend a lot of time on. It’s also great for those of you who are constantly on the go.

The game also has several bugs, such as moving through cars, and the fact that you only suffer from car crashes by a temporary drop in speed before accelerating. In this sense, the game feels like it was rushed.

Despite the DS' lack of true analog control the system handles the game with as much grace as it can with D-pad or touch-screen control. And the real trip is its great handling of wireless multiplayer.

Two advanced settings have you manipulating a steering wheel on the touch screen; it's hard to get the hang of, but ultimately very satsifying.

Some will scoff at the game's seemingly wacky control schemes and twitchy vehicle handling, but those who enjoy arcade racers will likely find something to enjoy here.

The problem I had is that you cannot calibrate your cars' steering wheel to your liking in order to get rid of its large dead spot.

Its horrible touch screen controls notwithstanding, Ridge Racer DS is a fast-paced thrill ride that's without a doubt the best racing game for the Nintendo DS.

Extremely playable.

It is for the multiplayer, and probably the multiplayer alone, that you'll be playing Ridge Racer DS for quite some time.

Although there’s glitches-a-plenty and very little tracks, you’ll be able to find something in RRDS that’s non-existent in "Asphalt: Urban GT"... a good time.

While it's certainly a competent racing game, Ridge Racer DS's awkward driving and collision model feel very dated by today's standards.

The outcome: a lesson in how not to use the touch screen in games. You'll immediately feel like you're in a round of bumper cars as you automatically swerve from side to side. You literally have no control in this manner.

Looks and feels a little dated (despite it being "new"), and control and gameplay issues combined make for a sometimes frustrating game.

There's just too much about it that gets up our nose, and however much we jam our finger up there trying to straighten it out, favouring the outside line or not, it still slides back and forth just out of reach.

While PSP owners get a polished looking racer, Ridge Racer DS looks more like a relic from earlier days of gaming, and plays like one too.

Collision detection problems and sloppy mechanics plague this otherwise fun title, and multiplayer is really the best aspect of the game.
