Rogue Spirit Critic Reviews

Rogue Spirit’s unique idea is great, enhancing the action game with its fun implementation. It’s a pleasure to move from body to body, discover their capabilities and then create a deadly chain of attacks, shits, and abilities. Bosses pose a clear challenge but are not unfair. The rogue layer doesn’t tweak the familiar formula in any way and requires some grinding to get the big permanent upgrades. The world looks good and the narrative is decent. Rogue Spirit is a great example of how a well targeted new idea can make some classic genre ideas feel fresh again.

Suffering from a little balancing issue, which will likely be resolved over time, Rogue Spirit is a difficult and refreshing piece of work that makes you want to come back to it "in body and in body."

Rogue Spirit is a title that is hard not to recommend, because it does its job. At the same time, however, it's as if it never really lets go throughout the entire game, failing to create memorable moments to focus solely on its roguelike nature.

Rogue Spirit offers an interesting central concept of possessing bodies of dead warriors – and there are a lot of those. Their balance is rather awful, though. The tempo is another weak point because it's glacial and boring, which is completely inappropriate for a roguelike.
