While its story and approach play it safe, the smooth gameplay and optional “perma-death” Hard Mode still bring plenty to enjoy. With a wide variety of weapons and spells to choose from and a unique experience behind each randomly-generated door, it keeps things fresh without stepping too far outside of established comfort zones.

Rogue Wizards is a solid casual roguelike with unique monster designs, perpetually generated dungeons and 10-12 hours of story-mode gameplay. Dungeons themselves are challenging and fun, requiring a bit strategy to defeat monsters which utilize truly unique and interesting attacks. While the boss battles and AI are a little lackluster, the ability to teleport within floors, bonuses for defeating all enemies, and the replayability offered by the Gauntlet mode make Rogue Wizards a good investment for the small price tag of $15.

Rogue Wizards is inherently difficult, but for the most part, it’s a rewarding, challenging difficulty that keeps the player engaged.

As fun as it was, playing through Rogue Wizards left me with an ever-expanding wish list: I wished the characters (who are unvoiced and under-written) were more distinctive and that combat and environments were more varied. I wished player characters would visually change throughout the game and the darn tiles would stop dropping in. But, I also know that the small team at Spellbind Studios also got a lot right, and that Rogue Wizards is still full of depth, charm and promise.

Rogue Wizards has a good cartoon style with some intuitive gameplay choice. Unfortunately the character growth and the fight progression are too simple and decrease the quality of the game.

Rogue Wizards starts out very interesting, but the lack of variety in gameplay strikes a little bit too soon and the side quests are here just to stretch the game even further. Spellbind Studios' game looks nice, but won't hold your attention to the very end.

Light and simple isn't a bad thing, but Rogue Wizards is too light and too simple, and a tad too slow for its scaled-down design to feel deliciously more-ish. While it's not bad, it didn't leave any real lasting impression barring a mental sigh at what could've been.
