Each individual piece of the game does not do anything innovative or new, but together it creates an experience that is unmatched even outside of the platform.

As challenging as it is rewarding, Severed is a reason to dust of your PS Vita and get slashing.

Severed is quite simply a handheld tour de force without equal.

Really, it's hard to find anything wrong with Severed. It obliterated my conceptions of how a touch-based game can play, it looks breathtaking, and it gave me a reason to break out my Vita.

At the end of the day – Vita exclusive or not – Severed is a joy to play, a pleasure to explore and a bloody great game in its own right and because of this, it is very much deserving of your time, money and attention.

With an emotional story and touch-based combat that feels both clever and natural, Severed is an excellent game that will stick with you long after you’ve finished playing.

The promise of the Vita was console-quality experiences on the go, but Severed isn't that. Rather, it's the sort of expertly executed cocktail of mechanics that would work as well on a comparatively diminutive smartphone screen. So while Severed may be something of a swan song for the Vita, it's also a reminder that great games are bigger and more lasting than the platforms that contain them.

If Severed does turn out to be the Vita’s swan song, Sony can hang its hat knowing that the Vita’s last hurrah was a grade-A banger from a premier independent developer.

Grievances aside, Severed is loaded with ambition and is so slick, stylish, and damn pretty it'll melt your eyeballs.

Severed is a game that's a perfect fit for the Vita, and with Drinkbox's special sauce mixed into the wound it's one bloodbath you won't want to miss.

DrinkBox has succeeded in not only making a fantastic game, but also making the PlayStation Vita relevant again in a time where most have left it for dead. Severed is the call to all gamers to dig out their dusty Vitas once more, as the neglected handheld has quietly acquired one of the must-have games of 2016.

There are few titles more deserving of being called one of the truly essential experiences for the Vita than Severed. If you own the latest PlayStation handheld, do yourself a favor and pick this up: you won't regret it.

After all, a Vita exclusive first person dungeon crawler RPG with touch controlled combat seems rather long in the genre definition, and a rather insane proposition all things considered. However, despite all odds, they’ve managed to craft a title featuring a fantastic world that begs to be explored, and a combat engine that’s intuitive and the finest use of touch controls since Tearaway.

Severed is a modern take on the old-school drpg genre. If you own a PS Vita, you should definitely own Severed.

Severed is the kind of game that comes along once a generation, and helps define a console.

If this is to be the Vita’s swansong, it’s a fantastic one.

An amazing video game for a dead device. We are glad that Drinkbox Studio decided to release this Vita exclusive for us. Severed is the PS Vita's swan song.

Severed is a great game, drawing from the classic dungeon crawling adventures, with an interesting gameplay model and unique visuals. Unfortunately, full playthrough is a little bit too short - it's a pity to part with such a good production after seven hours of fun.
