It’s a gift to play such an immersive and transporting independent game that eschews intricate ambitions to instead deliver such a consistent and artful feel within its small scope. Players should take only a handful of hours to complete the game, but it’s an incredibly effective escape worth twice its asking price. Throw on a decent pair of headphones and drift fully into Sheepo with confidence, and that time will be absolutely rewarded.

Sheepo has a charming aesthetic, tight gameplay, and an excellently balanced level of difficulty. It's short but the length feels just right all the same.

It will go largely ignored, and that is what makes the tale of SHEEPO so tragic. Fans of the metroidvania genre have another prized title to add to their backlog. SHEEPO is immersive, detailed, and full of a whimsical charm rarely found in either AAA products or the indie scene. It understands what it wants to do and only goes as far as it needs to to settle, allowing the player to be just as imaginative as the world provided here. Wondrous, bizarre, and most of all addictively fun, if not for a few minor points of contention, this would be one of the most recommendable indie games of its type.

Sheepo has a nice concept; steal eggs for science, shapeshift into creatures and solve puzzles in a metroidvania world. It’s notable for its combat-free gameplay in a genre that often sticks a blaster in your hand. However, it never really rises above the formulaic to fulfil its potential, and it lacks content past the five hour initial run.

Sheepo is a charming game, although its lack of variety in environments means it might outstay its welcome as the end draws near. Its gameplay is enjoyable and easy to pick up, however, and the fact there’s no combat makes this a great starting point for anyone new to the Medtroidvania genre. If you’re looking for a quirky adventure, Sheepo is worth picking up, but just don’t expect too much substance.
