In the end, however, Shin Megami Tensei is easily one of the best RPGs we've seen on the iOS platform yet, and it deserves your attention in spite of some of the flaws specific to this port.

A treat for the Atlus faithful, Shin Megami Tensei will challenge and reward you in a way that few RPGs on the App Store can manage.

If you've only dabbled in the series many recent spin-offs, this is an excellent introduction to a piece of gaming history. Just be prepared to deal with those issues that come with playing old games, and the new ones that come with playing them on touch devices.

The classic SNES RPG made by Atlus, Shin Megami Tensei, shines on the Apple Store with its inherent charm, complex gameplay and deep story.

If you’re hardcore into RPGs and want an experience from the past that still holds up some twenty years later, then definitely pick up SMT. If you’re just looking for another fun, time-destroying high school simulator, then patiently wait for the return of the Persona series to consoles.

Shin Megami Tensei for iOS not only serves as a virtual history lesson for this amazing series, but is still one of the more unique old-school JRPGs you will play. I definitely recommend checking this game out.

Shin Megami Tensei for iOS is a version of the 1992 original localized for the US and ported to the iPhone, no more, no less.

A fascinating look at the early days of one of the most consistently interesting Japanese role-playing franchises, although for many it will be just a little too old school.
