This is a game with style, substance, and its own great blend of action and strategy, and for now is an iOS exclusive to boot. If you have any love for Sid Meier, strategy games, aviation sims, or just darn good games you'd be crazy to not give this game a shot.

Ace Patrol flies players into turn-based aerial combat during World War I. Having a strategy for the skies is the challenge as players partake in multiple single player missions, each with unique objectives.

A brilliantly balanced, perfectly playable game of strategy and swooping turns that will have you enthralled, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is a must-play.

Having played so many of the Firaxis' games and having spent so much time learning their intricate mechanics, I'm pleased to report the simple elegance of Sid Meier's Ace Patrol doesn't diminish the satisfaction and underlying depth the studio is known for.

At launch, the promised network multiplayer mode was a no-show, and selecting that mode confusingly sends you back to the App Store to download the latest version of the game. There’s also no difference between the campaigns for each country, so buying them is really a matter of whether you want the different planes to fly.

A truly great portable strategy game that’s original, accessible, and addictive. And for once the microtransactions benefit the player as well as the publisher.

It's probably one of the best strategy games on iOS. However, it heavily relies on in-app purchases, so keep that in mind. If you like what it has to offer, those purchases will be worth it anyway.

All in all we wouldn't hesitate to recommend that any strategy fan gets stuck into at least the free content that's on offer here, and it's a wise distribution model given that there's not a great deal of hand-holding or explanation of the game's core mechanics.

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol (Free, Universal) is a finely crafted strategic aerial assault that soars in the App Store providing such a worthwhile download.

Mr. Meier has come up with a smart and innovative game of turn-based tactics for gamers on the go. Now it’s your job to be a smart consumer and show him what you’re willing to pay for – as well as what you’re not.

After porting all of its classics successfully to iOS, Sid Meier proves himself once again with Ace Patrol. It feels wonderfully refreshing and the dogfights combine accessibility with an intelligent layer of tactics. It's ruthless when failing a mission though, but that's compensated by a look that breathes sympathy and fun multiplayer modes.

An interesting and engaging strategy portable experience with a great bunch of missions to handle with and a good game balance.

Give the free levels a try, and you will have a hard time not downloading the additional campaigns right away.

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol is a deceptively deep, highly polished and surprisingly addictive look at the strategy behind old-school dogfights.

Sid Meier's first original mobile IP is a deep and clever strategy game, mixing the idea behind SteamBirds with the hexagonal grid of the classic boardgames.

Sid Meier's Ace Patrol has a good air combat setup, gameplay is simple but fun. Feels a lot of like boardgame Wings of Glory. There is no point of buying other nations, though. Only thing changes is the paint on your planes.

Ace Patrol shines in its mechanics and may very well become a good game after a steady progression of updates. As it stands now, this one could use some more time in flight school.

There's a sense of automation that some otherwise satisfying pilot customisation options can't shoot down.

Ace Patrol tries to apply the Civilization V template to WW1 air combat. Unfortunately, it a little too disjointed to fully engage.

Simple yet enjoyable conversion made for tablets, which might be the reason why it tends to stall on PCs. If you manage to get it running, feel free to adjust the score accordingly.
