Sludge Life 2 takes the best ideas of the first game and improves on them all. There are more interesting characters to have conversations with, more hotel rooms filled with small but effective narrative moments, more spots to tag, and more ciggies to collect. There’s plenty of dark water under the hotel and weird vistas to photograph. The game’s presentation serves it well, although I wished the world changed as players tag and find new secrets. Sludge Life 2 doesn’t have the deepest gameplay in its genre or the most complex story, but its anarchic-punk-nicotine vibe is immersive and fun.

Sludge Life 2 expands the great ideas of the original and delivers a bigger world, while also fixing many of the complains we had about the first title.

Sludge Life 2 is another gaming triumph given to us by the delightfully deranged team behind the first iteration. Everything about Sludge Life 2 builds upon the amazing original, its wacky humor and over the top narrative pushing new boundaries while staying totally on brand. Sludge Life 2 had some big, muddy shoes to full, but it did so with cleverness and competence. If you want a uniquely unhinged gaming experience, Sludge Life 2 is ripe for tagging.

The fact that Sludge Life 2 exists at all is still a pleasant surprise, and both games are experiences worth firing up if you’re looking for something a little less overproduced and something unafraid to just say “Let’s do our own thing and let it loose on the world.” While the sequel doesn’t do anything drastically different, it does enough to justify its existence and is something that’s as competent as its predecessor. It’s a grimy good time, and it’s something I think fans of weird games can pull up and appreciate for what it is. Ciggy City might be bigger, but it still has a rebellious heart that should satisfy those seeking something a bit more out there in their gaming lives.

Just like its predecessor, Sludge Life 2 is more style than substance, and while it still looks and feels unique, it is repetitive and lacks something new to offer in terms of gameplay.

These fascinating windows into the lives of people unwittingly close to the end are your reward for being thorough.

It is an attractive game with a unique narrative that unfolds in the smudgy, Lo-Fi Style and sloppy but tight gameplay. However, options that are not accessible enough compared to the previous game and dizzy structure that some clues are meaningless make the game feels more empty than ever.

Sludge Life 2 is painfully mediocre. While it has some good concepts, like its themes, its many secrets, and its branching story paths, that isn’t enough to outweigh its large list of negatives. While I did find some fun with this game, overall the head-ache-inducing music, the camera issues, and the lack of direction, really hurt my enjoyment of this title. Furthermore, the crude themes of the game further reduced my enjoyment of this title. Overall, while there is fun to be had in this game, you might be better off looking for something else.

When it comes to its social criticism, his characters and the low-poly atmosphere, Sludge Life 2 is pretty good. But it doesn't go far enough in its concept, which quickly shows its limitations. It becomes rather boring, despite its short length.
