Spawn lovers finally have a videogame they don't have to hide in shame, and those not initially interested in the comic will still find an addictive action title at Armageddon's core.

Challenged by a few technical issues (especially on the GameCube) and held back because of its repetition, it might not grab as many audiences as Namco hopes -- Even if it is mindless, good-looking fun.

A great action game that will likely appeal to fans of the previous two Devil May Cry games. For fans of the Spawn franchise, Manson fans, or fans of Goth-horror in general, this is a no-brainer.

Despite its flaws, this is the best Spawn game I've played. It's a "Devil May Cry" clone all the way through, but it's not like these games are a dime a dozen.

The game only lasts around four and a half hours. The replay value isn’t all that hot either, and the game is not completed unless it’s beaten on all three difficulty levels, totaling around fifteen total hours.

It follows the story line and the characters from the comic well, and does a great job of capturing the overall mood of the series, but the gameplay itself doesn't have the right attitude.

The frustration of Spawn comes mostly when you are trying to move him around tight spots, or see what the heck is going on right in front of him when he is near a wall.

If you're prepared for the occasionally uneven difficulty and the dark themes, Spawn: Armageddon makes a highly recommended weekend rental.

Even with three difficulty settings the game doesn't last very long. If you're a Spawn fan you'll get a kick out of this game but I recommend a rental.

A simplistic combat engine prevents this game from shining.

The disappointing part of Armageddon is its length and its lack of variety. You won't get too much playing time to see the visuals and there is no compelling reason, apart from aesthetic appreciation, to revisit some of the locales.

From its unbalanced gameplay to its mixed visual and audio presentation, Spawn: Armageddon is a valiant effort at coupling modern action gaming with a beloved character that unfortunately falls short of reaching heaven.

Spawn is indeed from hell and will make you suffer through a purgatory of repetitive gameplay.

It’s sad that the game doesn’t use Todd McFarlane’s artwork more effectively, because a Max Payne approach to the story telling would definitely have resulted in a better score.

It has a simplistic hand-to-hand fighting system, a jerky, broken camera, crappy, jarring level designs, and horrifically frustrating platforming elements. It pretty much just fails at emulating the combat-heavy action games that have inspired it, and you'll constantly remind yourself of this as you play.

The gameplay is too simple, hard and repetitive, making it feel like an arcade game. The graphics are good, as are the sound effects, but the fighting music is just horrible.
GameSpot

Regardless of the game's inspiration, Armageddon is a mediocre action game that is carried only by its license.

A very standard beat 'em up/third-person shooter that has many of the elements you'd expect (minor upgrades between levels, slow-motion special power) and none that you wouldn't.
