EA announced that it was working on a third and final Star Wars Jedi video game in a speech to the imperial senate investors. Oh, and 40,000,000 people have already played the first two.

Good news, everyone: We're finally going to put an end these Star Wars. Cal Kestis, the galaxy's most tastefully mulleted Jedi, will be put to rest. EA announced that the conclusion of its Star Wars Jedi trilogy is in the works. "Respawn" is working hard to bring this thrilling story's final chapter to players.

Laura Miele, EA entertainment and technology president, spoke at the corporation's Investor day yesterday. She dropped lots of boasts as well as big numbers in order to impress the moneybags. One of these boasts? "Over 40,000,000 Star Wars fans have connected to Cal Kestis and the arc of his becoming a powerful Jedi."

I'm assuming this is just a slightly indirect way of saying that 40 million people have played Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor and not how many have found Cal on LinkedIn. It's also made a killing. Miele boasts that the corporation has "delivered a number of the most popular and high-quality Star Wars games of all time, with over $5 billion in bookings."

Again, investor-day speak. You can read "net Bookings" as how much money EA made from games set in a galaxy, far, far away. This is minus all fees and whatever else that has eaten into this number. It's no wonder EA wants to release another one.

Miele did not give any hints as to when we might see the next Jedi title, but I sense through the Force that this could be a long time. Respawn is still releasing patches for Jedi: Survivor, which was released last year. I would be surprised if the next game is announced before it has been in development for a few years. Plus, Stig Asmussen, director of the first two games, left the series to start a new studio, Giant Skull. This probably slowed down development.

I hope Survivor will be in the oven too, now that I think about it. It's still a clunky, aggravating mess on my 4080 equipped machine, despite nine patch promises of all sorts of framerate improvements. I hope that it becomes playable eventually, as I was pleasantly surprised by Fallen Order. I initially dismissed it as a generic Star Wars story starring a forgettable Blando, but I ended up liking the mechanics, cast, and collection of ponchos. Will they all have a happy ending? I have a bad feeling.
