Starfield's Shattered Space expansion is out on September 30, but you get to drive its new Moon buggy today
Bethesda announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live that the Rev-8 vehicle, which is used to traverse Starfield's giant worlds in a bumpy fashion, was "available tonight" and for free. I can't help but feel like I'm playing Mass Effect Mako with this thing. It's bouncy and has a gun.
The biggest news is that Starfield’s first expansion, Shattered Space has a release schedule. It's September 30, as teased in the trailer. Bethesda has more information about the surprise patch, including details on bug fixes and how to obtain your own Rev-8.
The ground vehicle DLC released today answers what could be Starfield's most requested feature. Todd Howard received questions almost immediately after the release of Starfield last year about why there weren't any vehicles to drive in Starfield despite its size. (His response, that you have a jetpack didn't satisfy). Starfield's exploration was disappointing, but Shattered Space could be a big improvement.
In June, Bethesda revealed a new look at Shattered space. It will explore the House Va’ruun - a "weird" space cult that "believes in an eternal space serpent" - which our writer Chris Livingston found disappointing.
The Rev-8 trailer ends with a few seconds of Shattered Space. It's a very spooky, cosmic-horror vibe, complete with a character that looks like a space hologram ghost (or whatever the space hologram equivalent of a Ghost is). The Rev-8 is parked on the rocky outcrop overlooking a base that looks like it could be from another world at the end. I would say this new vehicle will play a major role in the new campaign missions of Shattered Space. In just six weeks, we'll know.
