It offers amazing visuals, intense gameplay and a compelling story. Most games only make it with one or two of these advantages but with StarLancer you get all three.

The attention to detail is unmatched.

Starlancer also features some of the most believable voice acting. However, I really hated Hawkee in the later missions, she was just plain irritating.

Complete with in-game cinematics, amazing cut-scenes and great speech-conveyed plot (moments), this is as close to an interactive movie as the Roberts boys have ever been.

The title lacks a lot of strategic variety in its weapons and a little in its ships as well. This may strongly enforce the idea of close quarters fighting, but it might also limit how a person can play the game.

It's a near-perfect traditional space combat game. I'm one of the most discriminating space combat fans out there, and StarLancer was just a joy to review.

The loadout screen is also a pleasant surprise. The pseudo-holographic rotating representation of you chosen ship gives you a good idea of how the hard points fill out.

The missions themselves begin to feel repetitive and some can be overly challenging... Still, with over 25 levels and internet multiplay through Microsoft's Gaming Zone, StarLancer is a great space combat game.

Gamers who love space combat games should enjoy this one immensely. Environments and scenery are top-notch and the dogfighting very fast paced.

GameSpot May 4, 2024
An enjoyable story-driven space combat sim that should meet, but not exceed, the lofty expectations of fans of the developers' previous games.

A few minor tweaks, and maybe some fan-based testing would have put this game closer to greatness, but it still manages to come together and deliver a solid game.

Lots of flash, low substance. Try "Freespace" or "Tachyon" for a more fulfilling experience.

Adrenaline Vault May 4, 2024
Loses ground with an inferior scaling system and limited use of large scale structures and ships, which negatively impact its graphics and gameplay scores.

The parts alone don't suggest a great game, but as a whole, it works really well, and I expect to be playing Starlancer for a while longer yet, especially with the incredibly fun cooperative mode available.

Eurogamer May 4, 2024
It is the best looking space combat sim we've seen so far... Unfortunately it is let down all too often by poor mission scripting and incompetent wingmen, not to mention the occasional random crash.

It's tough to sum the experience up succinctly except to say that it's probably worthwhile—more so if you are the tolerant type.

The missions themselves are typical space sim affairs that never quite innovate, but always manage to entertain nonetheless.

Somewhat less than the sum of its parts, StarLancer just doesn’t provide anything we haven’t seen before.
