The next Stellaris extension will allow your space empires to harness 'the majesty, and menace' of a new cosmic storm. I'm certain that this can only be a good thing

A lifetime of reading science fiction has taught that the endpoint for any galactic civilization is to meddle with forces it shouldn't meddle with. Cosmic Storms is the next Stellaris mechanical extension that adds eight new types galaxy-scale storms to your interstellar Empire to try and bend to their will. I don't see any problems.

The expansion replaces Stellaris’ current Space Storms with eight new varieties of Cosmic Storms. These storms can spawn at random on the galactic maps and travel across space. They are: electric, particle, magnetic, radiant and stardust. I can imagine the electric, particle, and nexus storms pretty easily. "Radiant Storms" and "gravity Storms" sound like the worst possible things that I would want to roll through my star systems.

Cosmic Storms, alongside the new, terrifying forms galactic inclement climate, will add a Storm Chaser origin to galactic civilizations filled with Glenn Powells. According to a Paradox Press Release, Storm Chaser Civilizations are "made up of people who seek to push themselves to their limits" and believe that enlightenment can be found by engaging with the greatest force of the universe: the Cosmic storms." These are the types of justifications you'd expect from people who really, really just want to look at cool space clouds. Curious.

Cosmic storms also introduces new storm-related technologies, civics and narratives that tell the story of vanished elder civilizations who were obsessed with storms. There will be a Galactic Weather Control Ascension Perk that will allow your science ships to create a new cosmic hurricane at will. I'm sure the Storm Chasers will be delighted. Your galactic neighbors may not be as happy.

Stellaris: Cosmic Storms is scheduled to arrive on September 10, 2020. It's part of the Season 8 Expansion Pass, but you can also add it to your Stellaris catalog for $12.99.
