Summary

Strategic Mind: Spirit of Liberty is a history-driven turn-based strategy set in WW2. Lead the scarce Finnish forces through the Winter War, Continuation War, and Lapland War. Save your country's very existence from the Red Menace.

Would you risk losing your experienced troops to try and capture the enemy tanks? Would you try to save the stragglers during the retreat and risk losing everyone, or cut your losses and establish a new line of defense? Would you agree to negotiate with the Soviets that had treacherously attacked you twice before?

Play through a number of missions throughout the 1939-1945 timeline, spanning three wars: Winter War, Continuation War, and Lapland War. The historical campaign will have smaller-scale but action-packed operations, covering all of the iconic historical battles.

Right from the start of a new game, you get the feeling that something is not right here. The animations are clunky, the voice acting sounds like a high school attempt at a rap song. The unreadable map is then made worse by the crew's constant comments that interrupt your gameplay. Spirit of Liberty is a difficult piece to digest.

Overall Strategic Mind: Spirit of Liberty provides a fresh outlook on World War II by utilizing Finland's ultimate struggle and hardships against the Soviets. While there are some lacking aspects within the game, such as the sub-par cutscenes and outdated UI, Strategic Mind: Spirit of Liberty still retains some great things like the turn systems, and with the addition of Heroes like Simo Hayha, the game fits the criteria for those who want to enjoy a new turn-based game that depicts the harshness of World War II.
