As my first entry into the series, Sudden Strike 4 is one of those RTS games that I'll actually remember a year from now. One where I'll be sitting there and go, "Jeeze, I think it's about time to play it again." I'm halfway tempted to go back and check out the older games, but Sudden Strike 4's campaign is just something sublime that I'm going to be revisiting frequently when I get the RTS itch. The shame is that I didn't enjoy the multiplayer as much as the single-player, as while the gameplay mechanics stay intact it loses a lot of that luster. A final note: the campaign, being only 21 missions along with the less enjoyable multiplayer, may not be enough for many people to pay out the $49.99 price tag. It's a bit steep, but I still say it's a must play for any RTS fan.

Sudden Strike 4 is one of these strategy games where victory and defeat are so damn close together.

Sudden Strike 4 has become a solid RTS, which seems to shine with tactical depth for quite a while.

Sudden Strike 4 is a great example of a challenging real time strategy game without all of the ‘dirt farming’ aspects of other titles. It requires real thought instead of simply pouring all units into the path of the enemy. There are a few hiccups in terms of pathing and AI, as well as a baffling choice for voicework, but the game has more high points than low. It would also be nice if there was just a little more handholding to bring in new players, but overall Sudden Strike 4 is a welcome addition to the genre.

Sudden Strike 4 proves that old-school real-time strategy games are not dead. The game may look like it came from the mid 2000s, but that's what makes it so appealing.

Sudden Strike 4 is a thrilling Real Time Tactics game, which gives a realistic insight in some WW 2 decisive battles. There is a unique balance among the various units of the Ally, Soviet and Nazi army, which allows for many and different tactical approaches, but is held back by terrible pathfinding, airy skirmish and multiplayer and static, unresponsive AI, to be deemed as classic in the genre.

Alongside old-school features that strategy aficionados were looking forward to, Sudden Strike reanimates some technical atavisms best left forgotten, with interface being the biggest offender.

Sudden Strike is back in the game. The fourth installment in the series guarantees some top-notch strategic gameplay even though there are some serious issues in need of fixing. My time as a WWII commander was well spent - hopefully all this means that the RTS genre will return in all its glory.

Solid WWII strategy with pathfinding problems, lack of multiplayer content and brash presentation.

Sudden Strike 4 is a good tactical game limited by its AI and multiplayer.

It has simply been done too many times before, and the game seems content to be a comfortable -- in both a good and not-so-great way -- and immediately recognizable experience. Easy for me to say. I'm not sure how to make the storming of Normandy or the frigid Russian winters surprising again, especially in an RTS where the human drama takes a back seat to pushing around little units to solve tactical puzzles. For console gamers less affected by ennui, Sudden Strike 4 is approachable and not terribly obtuse and provides something that PC players have come to take for granted: a great looking, fun-to-play, well-made strategy game about one of history's most turbulent and strategically interesting periods.

Sudden Strike 4 is a sound tactical game with a great depth of units and tactical options. It is, however, let down by limited AI which leaves missions feeling more like set problems to solve rather than dynamic battlefields, limiting any replay value.

Time and multiplayer statistics prove that Company of Heroes 2 is still the best WWII-themed RTS. Unfortunately, Sudden Strike 4 is too weak to dethrone it.

A flat and not very interesting trip to World War II can catch your eye mostly because of its nice visuals. It may be enough for newcomers, but veterans of the genre have to find a new favorite elsewhere.

A quirky, not very interesting trip to World War II excels only with its very solid visuals. It may be enough for newcomers, but veterans of the genre must find a new favorite elsewhere.
