Excellent graphics, simple controls, no tilt and just a really fun game, Super Stardust HD is the must have game for PSN.

Visually, Super Stardust is stunning. It's easily the best-looking downloadable game for the PS3 and I'll go so far as to call it a killer-app, much like Geometry Wars for the 360.

In every other respect, Super Stardust HD is an absolute star, the jewel in the crown of the PlayStation Store and quite possibly the best purists' shooter to appear on console since the legendary Geometry Wars.

Its visuals, gameplay and intricacy make it the best downloadable shooter available since "Geometry Wars: Evolved" – end of story.

So is Super Stardust HD better than "Geometry Wars"? That is something that will likely come down to personal preference. I happen to much prefer Super Stardust for its diversity of gameplay -- multiple weapons, multiple stages, multiple ways to build up score -- and its better graphical and aural presentation.

Screw it, buy the thing as it’ll give you geometry wars beating action, and cheaper than a couple of beers. (At my local anyway).

Costing less than $10, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that most players will play this well over 10 times: it offers fast paced twin-stick shooter action that is hard to beat. SSHD sets the golden standard for future PSN games to strive for.

Super Stardust HD one-ups "Geometry Wars" on every front, and as such, should be a game that keeps players coming back for a long time. Seven months after the PS3's launch, it sounds silly to say that one of the best games for the system only costs eight dollars, but it might be true.

Pure adrenalin rush. Shoot ‘em ups don’t come much better than this.

SSHD is a great package - it's complete, timely, expertly produced and at just £4.99 it's absolutely essential for any shooter fan.

Super Stardust HD takes an old genre and reinvents it in a way that gives us fond memories of past games along with delivering an intense and challenging game.

A high-score run on Super Stardust HD is more a marathon than spirit, but it's still the best thing running on the PS3.

Addictively satisfying mechanics, great visuals and tactical yet simplistic design. In truth, and I say this as a heavy duty "Geometry Wars" player myself, Super Stardust HD is not only just as good as Bizarre Creation's it's in many ways better.

Pretty little explosions and detailed alien foes make this a visual treat, and the frantic action is always absorbing.

Graphically, as PSN games go, Super Stardust HD is superb, and it nicely combines the neon glow of Geometry Wars with the detailed retro pixel work of the first Stardust. The difficulty level is spot on, providing a challenge without causing a headache.

A strong contender for one of our games of 2007. When you do finally get around to picking up a PlayStation 3, this should be your first online purchase.

In a growing field of downloadable shooters, it stands out as one of the best.

Even though it’s just a remake, it’s one of the best ones available so far.

It can get a bit hard to see where you're going with so much happening, and progression doesn't feel as though it's entirely in your hands, but for enjoyment, sparkle and that 'one more go' factor, this is a hard one to turn down.

A nice challenge and it certainly looks good in high definition, but it can become infuriatingly complicated during the later phases of each level.
