Even with its short run time, The Act is still easy to recommend as an excellent take on animated laserdisc games.

Take The Act for what it's worth, and you will have a product that is worth your time and money.

A wonderfully animated Disney-esque cartoon in which you have a minuscule amount of input.

The Act strives to do a great thing by bringing new ideas and new blood to the full motion video/quick time event genre, but the execution is lacking. React Entertainment shouldn't give up, though. Far from it. Some tweaks might help make The Act more satisfying to play, and we look forward to seeing how the studio will bring games and animation together in the future.

With its charming boy-meets-girl story and graphics that you might expect to see on the big screen, The Act's biggest pitfall may just be that it's over too soon.

Any fans of hand-drawn animation should download it immediately.

A beautifully made attempt at an interactive narrative, The Act never quite manages to successfully blend its story and the player's inputs.

It's a beautiful, well-told story, and an experience that isn't like much of anything being made today. It's worth a look for the sake of novelty alone. And while I can't say they'll all live happily ever after, winning your way through the game's brief tale is a satisfying experience on its own.

The Act could easily be compared to Dragon's Lair. Both are superbly animated experiences, but are quite low on the gameplay side of things. This will amuse, but don't expect any lasting enjoyment or replayability.

For a game about properly communicating your emotions in order to find success, the developer did a poor job of conveying its own desires to the player. The Act is a rough relationship that woos with visual charm, connects through some fantastic, emotional moments, but leaves the player a bit high and dry, in the end. There might not be another game like it, but there are better fish in the sea out there, even for a romantic gamer.

The Act is a cute, but very short animated cartoon disguised as an
experimental "game".

The Act is a great-looking cartoon that doesn't quite work as a game.

Despite its lunges for the mainstream, in other words, The Act has forgotten one of the most important things about escapist cinema and cartoons: they generally don't require this much effort.
