Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder Critic Reviews

This game oozes replay value. From the Xbox Live! to the improved interface, this game has legs.

Newbies may be shocked at the strategy and planning this game requires, but they'll most likely enjoy the quick learning curve, thanks to Ghost's user-friendly interface.

Weather effects are, believe it or not, even better now, highlighted by the blowing rain in the final single-player mission.

The best part of Island Thunder is its price tag... Though it may seem to be a simple add-on, Island Thunder has enough features to make it feel like a brand-new game.

My only real beef about this and every Tom Clancy game, PC or otherwise, is the inability to step over small rocks or other obstacles coupled with no jump function. I know for a fact that Green Berets can either climb or jump over objects over 11 inches high.

Island Thunder isn’t your typical FPS. It is more much calculating and often more about team management than blazing gunfire. You setup and execute elaborate tactical assaults working as a leader of a team.

Yet another stellar Ghost Recon experience with an interesting premise, challenging missions and the same great online multiplayer experience we’ve all come to expect from a Tom Clancy tactical action game.

I wouldn’t consider scooping Island Thunder unless you are a Live subscriber, because as good as the game’s story and single-player missions can be, there’s simply not enough levels and gameplay here for going solo.

The additions to the single player campaign are outweighed by the frantic multiplayer action, making this a game for those who seek Live play over another squad-based single player experience.

If you're the methodical type who loves to drown in the details, set up intricate raids, and get your hands dirty (so to speak); I see no reason why you won't enjoy this release.

Enter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, an expansion pack, to give fans of the original more of the same heart pounding, squad based action.

Although the single-player campaign is relatively short (only eight missions), the heart and soul of Island Thunder is the Xbox Live gameplay.

A must buy for Xbox Live players.

The massive update of maps will draw any Live gamers to Island Thunder for sure. Add to that the fact that there will be downloadable maps and single player missions and this game is easily worth the discounted price tag.

May not be the best-looking tactical shooter ever made, nor does it bring anything to the genre in terms of progress, but there's little else on Xbox worth looking at in the genre until "Rainbow Six 3" shows up.

Other than the less-than-perfect graphics, there's nothing to complain about in Ghost Recon's emphasis on undercover method and leadership.

Continues the good work of the original release, and takes full advantage of the expanding Live universe. Few games today really represent value for money, but Gamestyle is confident in stating that this release is certainly money well spent.

Island Thunder offers an experience much different to the gun blazing rampage games out there such as Unreal, Mech Assault and many other shooting games. It offers a fairly realistic wartime experience to people without all the inconveniences of bullet wounds, battle fatigue syndrome and death.

More of the same.

Admittedly there is not much here for the Ghost Recon vet. Beginners will get the most bang for their buck with this purchase.
