A delicious deep dive into the Legendary Lords of the Vampire Coast. With its unique victory conditions and mechanics that scream YAAARRR, it’s a welcome addition to the Total War: Warhammer universe and well worth your time and money.

Curse of the Vampire Coast has an excellent roster of units, lords and monsters who all fight with a wonderful symbiosis we’ve rarely seen before. But, unfortunately, the campaign leaves something to be desired, and feels far less mechanically focused than previous race-packs.

Following the amazing Tomb Kings expansion, I wasn’t expecting to see yet another curve ball, but The Curse of the Vampire Coast mostly delivers it.

From the seas comes the undead hordes of the Vampire Coast. Prepare yourself to either resist or bring the terrors of the oceans ashore as the sea-faring zombie pirates. From shambling musket-wielding warriors to shipwrecks reanimated into towering artillery pieces, you are sure to get your fix of piracy and destruction.

The greatest omission is in fact to be found in the absence of naval battles, which have been replaced by clashes on the islands: a solution that, in any case, does not satisfy.

Creative Assembly's art team has outdone itself on Curse of the Vampire Coast, building a visual treat that drips with detail. The campaign is an inventive but uneven experience, with some Legendary Lords more enjoyable than others.

All in all, Curse of the Vampire Coast is yet another great DLC, worth the admission price to any fans of the factions. It is not as good as Rise of the Tomb Kings, as the lack of ship to ship battles and the boring, constant loop of field and siege battles that Warhammer II constantly devolves to doesn’t really lend itself to a pirate experience, but given what Creative Assembly was working with, Vampire Coast is surprisingly thorough.
