The sound is very disturbing in a Nine Inch Nails sort of way—very cool and very brooding, fitting in perfectly with the game.

It almost seems like the designers at Incog. Inc. felt a certain loathing for every other car-combat game that was shoveled out before it, and felt a violent, bloodthirsty necessity to wipe the slate clean...I am still quite awe-struck with the overall gameplay in this beautiful, incredible title.

Not only the best in the series, but it also manages to be the best car combat game ever created and one of the best PlayStation 2 games currently available.

The difference is that TMB just does it all better. Level design, graphics, weapons, vehicles, players… they’re all pulled off to such a perfect degree that it almost seems like the other games didn’t even exist.

It isn’t every day I manage to find a game with this much replayability, and I think that speaks a lot for the effort and eye to detail that Incog, Inc. put into this game. Excellent graphics, audio, and gameplay all balance to create a truly rewarding game.

The Hunter S. Thompson of car carnage, a hardcore title teeming with brilliance, flair and just enough attitude. And it works great with a few drinks.

The CG-movies are some of the most horrific ever seen in any form of media, and that includes horror movies, as well... a must have for any adult PS2 owner.

Stunning visuals, blistering speed, interactive environments, and explosive gameplay combine to give car combat junkies their fix.

Plus, there are many combo moves, hidden areas and countless destructive items to find, including the ability to shoot down a 747, blow up a gas station, drive over pedestrians or electrocute prison inmates strapped into the chair. Fun for the whole family!

For all its graphical splendor and high level of polish, the game’s inherent flaws are its high level of difficulty and relative lack of depth.

This is perhaps the finest use of the PlayStation2's power so far. Twisted Metal: Black represents a superlative combination of frame rate, detail, and gameplay.

Initially it won’t take you that long to complete, but with other vehicles to try out and infinite scores to settle it is sure to keep you coming back, even after a long absence.

The dark humor knows just when to give you a good kick in the balls. And isn’t that what we’re really looking for in a video game?

It's basically the vehicular combat equivalent of a fighting game like "Tekken" or "Virtua Fighter"—each character has his reason for entering the tournament and you can play your way through a set of scenarios to complete their quest.

Undoubtedly the fastest, scariest, most challenging and adrenaline-pumping demolition game yet devised for the PS2.
