The Typing of the Dead: Overkill Critic Reviews

It's incredibly dumb, yes, but it works.

Enjoyable, inventive, and great delivery by developers Modern Dream, Typing of the Dead is a curio but one that definitely requires a few moments of attention. If you like typing really quick, zombies, and wisecracking: look no further.

I think criticising it for being ugly and short is to miss the point. This is a no holds barred novelty amusement. It is stupid and dumb and very, very fun.

The novelty of typing the phrases 'male crime sim' and 'flowers to womans', although hilarious in the first few stages, starts to fade a little without that ancient Sega charm. You realise that you're just retreading the slightly toothless plot of a game that you didn't ever feel nostalgic about. The bromancing leads start to get tiresome. And then you need a gin and tonic.

The Typing of the Dead is stark-raving bonkers, yes, but it’s that lunacy that keeps you wanting to play.

The Typing of the Dead: Overkill is similar to those outlandish B-movie films that people deep down enjoyed simply for the fact that they are stupid. This game takes a basic premise and runs with it. As it turns out, it’s still a lot of fun, even after experiencing the first The Typing of the Dead.

The Typing of the Dead: Overkill is a title already seen, in every one of its aspects: from the plot to the technical aspect, from game mechanics to extra mode, everything is recycled and repurposed.

Everybody probably doesn’t love grindhouse humour and rail shooters in 2013. But there is no game like Typing of the Dead: Overkill. Together with the upcoming co-op mode it might be a future cult classic.

Lacks polish and shows obvious signs of cuts, compromises and overall unfavourable circumstances in which the game was made.

The Typing of the Dead: Overkill is an interesting but questionable attempt to deliver a mix of typing game and lightgun shooter.
