Uncommon Valor: Campaign for the South Pacific Critic Reviews

In my 12 years of reviewing wargames, I've never enjoyed a deeper, richer, more historically plausible simulation.

Controlling all of these details might overwhelm a novice player at first, but given time to practice and master the interface and all of the commands start to come pretty naturally, it even becomes rather addictive.

The broad-reach of the game doesn't come at the expense of detail or flexibility though, so it shouldn't put off the hardcore crowd either.

It's one of those rare games that manages to combine detail, historical accuracy and playability to make a truly engaging and entertaining strategy game.

Easily the most polished, intelligent and satisfying wargame since "Combat Mission."

A little patience and a lot of practice is likely to produce some highly addictive results, even for those who felt overwhelmed and frustrated by Grigsby's earlier efforts such as "Pacific War" and "War in Russia."

It is a wargaming grognard's dream, but may put off anyone else. That would be a shame, because underneath this detailed spreadsheet-type interface is an intriguing strategy game.

This system lacks some of the tension of a tactical game, but it bodes well for the follow-up scheduled for this wiwnter.
